The Exchange

Batangtoru Forest Ecosystem at North Sumatra, Indonesia. There are many activities you can do, such as: tree planting, forest patrol, tree sapling nursery, survival monitoring of planted tree, teaching basic english skill for local staffs & community. In the weekend, of you have some money and wanna spend it, try to visit "Toba Lake" and " Poncan Marine Resort"


16 hours of help per week

Teaching Languages: Teach a language to guests or local communities.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Tent: You will sleep in a tent at a camping site.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Holistic Therapies: You can take part in any of our therapeutic activities for free.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Program Details

Sumatra Rainforest Institute (SRI) is local NGO and have rainforest & wildlife conservation programs including help local farmers who lives around the forests. This conservation programs is on going for Batangtoru Forest Ecosystem Zone, and administratively at North Tapanuli regency & South Tapanuli regency in North Sumatra Province.

Activities & Shift

1. Together with staffs for tree sapling production in tree nursery centre
2. Together with staffs for supervise the daily workers on tree planting activities
3. Together with staffs for installment of camera traps
4. Together with staff for cooking in the field ( lunch and coffee & tea time)

5. Teaching English for local staffs and local community ( 5 hours per week)
