Help animal welfare and conservation with our charity - Orangutan Project. We are looking for a chef to develop and run the kitchen at our gorgeous beach resort, Basaga Holiday Lundu. Come and create a menu with strong vegetarian & vegan options for customers and guests.
30 hours of help per week
Help prepare, finish and serve meals.

We are looking for a full-time chef at our beach resort, Basaga Holiday Resort Lundu. We have a fully functional kitchen overlooking the beach, but it is currently only used for breakfast and bar snacks. We are looking for a head chef to help create the menu utilizing local produce, run the kitchen, train kitchen staff for service, and potentially develop a garden on the spacious property.
We would like to offer strong vegan and vegetarian options as well, so experience cooking vegan/vegetarian is a plus!
Basaga Holiday Lundu is located 1.5 hours from Kuching city in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. It is a gorgeous property (check out our video gallery!), a short drive from the town of Lundu and Gunung Gading national park. Accommodation is provided at the resort along with a weekly living stipend.

Activities & Shift
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and independent with professional chef experience. You will be working to develop our kitchen and menu. We want someone to create and test different recipes that highlight locally sourced produce common in the tropics.
Our animal charity runs the resort, so we would like strong vegetarian and vegan options on our menu. You will also need to train our local staff in cooking and service, and really build our kitchen from the ground up.
We only have twelve rooms at the moment bu we would like to be able to offer food to our guests and any walk-ins from adjacent resorts or town. You will be cooking and serving lunch and dinner Friday through Sunday when we are most busy. And when it is less busy we need someone to use their time effectively to develop and test the menu, train the staff, or start a garden on the grounds.
You will be taking on all the responsibilities of a head chef, including meal planning, prepping, training and ordering. You will need to purchase food for the kitchen from the local markets or our restaurant produce providers, so being able to drive a manual car in lefthand traffic is a plus!
The accommodation is in the staff quarters at the resort. The quarters are very basic but comfortable, and have the beach right outside your door. You will have a private room and access to a shared bathroom with cold showers and western toilets. You can use the amenities at the hotel like the pool and beach anytime you would like.
A personal living stipend is provided every week, and we provide discounts at our bars and hotel in Kuching. In exchange for all we provide, we are looking for people willing to work and help make a difference, not a free vacation :)
