The Experience

There are several positions and many jobs we need help with from general house cleaning, gardening, painting and decorating the centre inside and outside. This year we have the project of rebuilding our block of 7 stables where we need help to include volunteers in building, outside roofing and wood work skills.

Great experience!!! Jackeline and Tim are amazing!!! They were all the time worried about my comfortability, sharing moments and making me feel like in home!! I really recommend the volunteering there! The accommodation is excellent and the tasks are easy!!! There is just one problem, I gonna miss all the hosts! including animals!!!

Just imagine you are on the way home,
and your family are waiting to see you again after while,
Jacqueline home was my home during my stay,
I always felt be at home , never bored, I was well received,
it was the same for all voluntary, we were like a big family ,
She helped us a lot to learn English,
Tim was with us evenings and weekends and always positively and smiling,
I am not about to forget this kind of stay, and never thank enough to them,
I love you , you were the best ,
you'll be always in my memory ,
Mes meilleurs souhaite pour vous .

The lack of confort of the living doesn’t match with the hard work which is expected to be done. The boiler was broken so offered no hot water or heating, and I don’t think that’s the only reason why we didn’t enjoy the stay and left earlier. In general, we didn't feel confortable and welcomed on a material and human aspect. One night the host yelled at me because I was asleep by the fireplace in the living room - because I was freezing and sick - and said several times that she felt invaded by strangers. There was pressure, being there felt like a punishing retreat. I feel sorry to say so.

No one is at their best when feeling poorly, Julie arrived unwell and certainly not in a condition to be travelling let alone volunteering, it was instantly brought to her attention on arrival where she insisted she was ok.

Tasks here are taught and demonstrated prior to any volunteer working, opportunity is given for questions or the time to express they are unhappy to help with any task demonstrated, again Julie insisted she was fine, and wanted to help, we were concerned and advised her that she should see a doctor instead but wouldn’t.

We were not surprised at her departure home, after all she arrived poorly, didn’t help herself by being up late, laying on a couch with a fire almost out instead of being tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle or two to try and get better, her snappy, aggressive attitude was shocking to say the least!

We have a traditional farmhouse with two types of heating installed; central and a big log burner, it was misfortunate that during Julie’s visit she experienced our boiler breaking down, it happens, but this is how ‘rural’ people survive when their modern heating system fails but then in another way we are lucky we can still keep warm and cook with our log burner when this happens, it is the reality of the living in the country, our way of life, Julie struggled in an environment without the central heating on 100% of the time, pubs, clubs and night life as she does have in Paris, we now trust and hope Julie is now better and for the future she must consider wisely, respecting others and in particular other volunteers before going away ill to ensure no wasted trips and that one else gets sick as others did during and after her stay with No one is at their best when feeling poorly, Julie arrived unwell and certainly not in a condition to be travelling let alone volunteering, it was instantly brought to her attention on arrival where she insisted she was ok.

United States

The farm, the land, and the animals were gorgeous and there couldn't be a more beautiful place to relax, learn and volunteer but within twenty minutes of meeting the host my partner and I were met with overt sexism. The next day our host was very condescending to all of the volunteers, and my partner and I left within 24 hours of arrival.
