The Experience

We are one of the best ranked hostels in Barcelona- but even the best hostel sometimes needs a little work - that's why we are looking for someone who wants to stay with us for free in exchange for taking on some maintence tasks. You will be working under the watch of our maintenance staff (who only speaks Spanish) and although the job is not too demanding, we require that you have some background in this type of work.

I’ll start by saying that it’s the volunteers that make this experience incredible. You live together, eat meals together and work together and very quickly, you become a family. The hostel is very social and the guests that come to stay are almost always fun and friendly which makes the shifts a lot more enjoyable. Some downsides are that the accommodation is cramped and you only receive one free meal per day, which the guests also receive. Be prepared for a lot of work but living in Barcelona for 5 weeks made it worth it for me. Wouldn’t trade the experience for the world.

This was my first Worldpackers experience, and I enjoyed my time at Black Swan Hostel. The work was as described, and the location of the hostel is perfect. The common areas are great for meeting other travellers as well. However, the staff dorm is very small with no air conditioning, and there is not two free meals as it says on the listing. There is free dinner, but every guest recieves it, and it is cooked by the volunteers as a work shift. At times it felt like the volunteers were treated more like employees. The other volunteers were amazing, which made the experience much better though

The experience at blackswan was truly great and what made it special was the volunteering and reception team who was full of amazing human beings. The biggest downside for me was the fact that we only got free dinner (which is free for the whole hostel) . Considering the place highly relies on volunteers, I feel like we could have gotten a bit more in return. But overall it is really worth it and you'll love this beautiful city Barcelona.

I have had the BEST time at Black Swan. I extended my stay by 2 weeks because I was enjoying myself too much to leave!

It’s a super fun hostel in a good location. The staff are super friendly and have now become some really close friends. I’ve met some truly amazing people and it has absolutely made my experience in Barcelona!

The best thing was the rest of the volunteers. We all arrived at a similar time and our group was amazing, it really felt like family and I am certain I’ve made friends for life.

This was by far the best volunteering experience I have had!!🤩 I met so many amazing people and thanks to the friendly dinner every night with the guests the social athmosphere was perfect. The work barely feels like work, I had so much fun during my shifts! Like talking to guests, cooking dinner, going to a viewing point of BCN and just organizing pubcrawls. Staff is amazing and welcoming. It felt like a second home. Also, you save quite some money with the free dinners and free entrance to the nightclubs!! Staying at Black Swan Hostel is the best desicion I have made in 2022. I'll be back!
