Program Details

The idea was to give parents with young kids a place, they can come to and have a few hours of time to use for work, learning, writing or anything they need the time for, without actually giving their children into daycare. So, the Rockzipfel was founded by a dedicated mum (who is still living in the same house) and is still run by the parents today.
It has remained a non-profit project throughout the whole time - with volunteers from all over the world helping in activities with the kids. It is also a community flat where parents with young children meet and exchange experiences, help each other, cook together and share knowledge.

Activities & Shift

While the parents are at hand, getting their work done, you can sing, play, cook or just run around with the children. Your job won’t be changing diapers or supervising the kids, but to have fun together and learn from each other.

You always wanted to know if it’s true, that everybody is an artist? Here you can test the thesis! You want to check if your newly developed sports-programme works with every level of fitness? This is your chance to proof it! You want to know if the song you just wrote is really that awesome? You'll never meet an audience more honest! Or maybe you just love to make cookies with the help of lots of tiny, sticky fingers.

You will not have the main responsibility for the kids, the parents keep it and are just a minute away.

Shifts are 4h/d from 11-12 and 13-16/10-12 and 13-15 (weekends excluded) plus a little helping with chores in the house.

Rules

Our project is looking for two volunteers on a constant basis to help with a maximum of 10 children, aged between 0 and 2 years. We are looking for enthusiastic people, interested in children's development and community life.

You ought to have some experience with children of that age. A good english speaking level is required. Basic German is helpful, but not critical.

You should be willing to stay one month minimum. An ideal time to get used to the house, the project and get to know and enjoy Leipzig is three months. (But watch out, you might never want to leave again...)
