The Experience
We are developing a permaculture project in the heart of Alto Alentejo (Portugal) and you will be able to learn and share your knowledge in the scope of sustainability, agroecology and permaculture. Paintings, natural constructions, restorations and creative arrangements are also one of the areas of our work. In addition to these activities, you can enjoy walks and trails, dive in the lagoon, Alentejo / Portuguese cuisine and music.

Mafalda and Jeronimo welcome you with open arms and hearts, making you feel at home. To say this was the best first experience possible is an understatement! I loved learning about permaculture, helping around in the garden, painting the mural, taking care of two little kittens - Fava and Feijão, exploring the area of Alter, cooking delicious meals together (I'll definitely introduce migas in Poland) and even dealing with THE feisty duck Emilio. These guys made me fell in love with their way of living and left me wanting to learn more. Can't wait to come back to you guys!

'Wow' is not enough to describe how I feel after my stay with Mafalda and Jeronimo (or Jiiironimo as they say in Alter 🤣) this wonderful couple welcomed us with open arms, made us comfortable, taught us so much about taking care of plants and animals, and cooked us delicious meals every day. But what I most appreciated was the support and comfort they gave after I had a family medical emergency during my stay. I wasn't able to travel to be with my family abroad, but the remaining time I had during my stay was very therapeutic (as Mafalda always says) and helped me keep my mind off of things.❤

The project libre is a green oasi in the middle of a beautiful landscape, perfect to feel in the middle of nature. My stay went well, Mafalda is a great chef of Portuguese vegetarian dishes, salads and soups, and Jeronimo really patiently explains you so many things, about permaculture, Portugal and stay connected with nature, probably while you are having a delicious dish together. Joana and Jil are two great children, they speak some English and are willing to help, share and learn anything they can. I should have planned a longer stay, 10days have gone so fast, but I'm sure I will be back.

My time in the project has been quite special. Mafalda and Geronimo are amazing people, open-minded and full of positive energy. The place is cosy and well equipped, with the option to sleep inside a traditional Portuguese cottage in the weekdays or a big tent. We mainly worked on the organic garden and agroforestry, which were among my favourite passions. We had fantastic jam nights at the fireplace when they stayed for the night and their son and daughter are great musicians and companions too. Huge thank you for all the beautiful things you shared, and I hope to meet you again soon :)

El proyeto lo mejor! Así de simple. Mafalda y Jehronimo son excelentes y muy cariñosas personas, aprendimos mucho de permacultura, pero también conocimos lugares, personas y momentos que nunca olvidaremos. Sin duda recomendado para cualquier viajero/a que quiera experimentar un lugar agradable y tranquilo. Nos vamos con nuevos amigos y mil historias por contar. La mejor primera experiencia para nosotros.
