The experience

In this position, you will assist teachers with English and Math lessons at the schools in the morning as well as in our Centers in the afternoon. Or teaching neighbouring children in English, giving the underprivileged kids in the Thar Desert a better education and promoting the importance of education.

What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Child Care: Caring for, playing with, and spending time with children.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: € 9 Per day

Description: The fee is used for accommodating the volunteers: - shared, single-sex room (Rs 25.000 per month) (With water, linen, towels, picking up and dropping on arrival and departure from Jodhpur, laundry machine, refrigerator, 3 meals per day/7 days)

What you get

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Travelers arriving by boat in Drake Bay will need to pay for a taxi transfer to Finca Ganadito (around USD 30).

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Program Details

Setrawa is a small village of about 3000 inhabitants, situated 110 km west of Jodhpur. Sambhali has been running an Empowerment Centre for women and children since 2007 and has started to support two government schools with volunteers. Volunteers, not only, support teachers at the government schools by giving English and Math lessons for the children there but also teach English and Math at the Sewing Centres in the afternoon.

In addition to classroom activities, the children, living on the outskirts of the village (who do not have access to running water), are also provided with access to personal care such as hair washing, bathing and tooth brushing.

Activities & Shift

During the mornings, you will assist the teachers at the local government schools with teaching basic Math and English to the students. In the afternoon they can either support our primary education center with teaching English there or giving lessons to children from the neighbourhood of the accommodation
