The Exchange

Teaching in a Ugandan school is a truly humbling experience and although the students have experienced tough upbringings, they are extremely polite, cheerful, and eager to learn. Volunteers on the Teaching project are placed where they help alongside local teachers. Typical subjects include English, Maths, Sports, Arts, Music, etc. Students can range in age from 3 to 18 years :)


What you offer

6 hours of help per day

Child Care: Help look after, educate and instruct children.

Teaching Sports: Teach or help guests or local communities practice a new sport.

Arts: Help with painting, graffiti, sculpting or drawing.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Accepts solo applications and also couples and pairs

Program Details

The objective of this program is to contribute to the development of under-resourced local schools and provide opportunities for Ugandans from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive a quality education. Teaching in a Ugandan school is a truly humbling experience and although the students have experienced tough upbringings, they are extremely polite, cheerful and eager to learn.


Activities & Shift

Volunteers on the Teaching project are placed in the GNUVF School where they help alongside local teachers. Typical subjects include English, Maths, Sports, Arts, Music, etc. Students can range in age from 3 to 18 years. As volunteers work with the support of GNUVF’s local team and placement staff, they do not need to be qualified or experienced teachers to participate.


Rules

However, we encourage volunteers to come prepared by completing some relevant training, like a teaching English as a foreign language Schools in Uganda run for three terms per year and the Teaching project will not operate during the school holiday periods. Volunteers will switch to other available community project, such as women empowerment, community development etc during the holidays.
