The Exchange

I'm going to talk to you a little bit about our volunteer’s program: Volunteers have a schedule of 25 hours a week, generally 5 hours per day with two days off. They can work morning, afternoon or night schedules, depending of our necessities. The help consists mainly in giving support to the cleaning crew, making beds, breakfast area/bar and reception.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Night Shift: Help with night shift tasks and create a relaxing environment for guests.

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Bartending: Make and serve drinks and help maintain the beverages inventory.


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Drinks: Get discounts for drinks and beverages from our bar.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Discounts on Accommodation: Get discounts for your stay in other hostels.

Free Tours: We’ll take you on tours and rides around town. For free!

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.


Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Spanish

Between 18 and 35 years old

Be from outside Portugal

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or pairs)

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

The Schedule: Volunteers have a Schedule of 25 hours a week, generally 5 hours per day with two days off. They can work morning, afternoon or night schedules, depending of our necessities.
The Work: The work consists mainly in giving support to the cleaning crew, making beds, cleaning bedrooms or other areas. The cleaning is about 80% of the volunteer work. Are you comfortable with this?
You will be also doing reception and bartending as well as any kind of administrative work that we need (translations for example). And of course, you are encourage to provide the guest the best experience possible - establishing good relationships and maintaining a relaxing and friendly environment. It's important for us to have a culturally diverse team that can relate to the guest and perhaps teaching a thing or two to us locals.
