The Exchange

We are a new and growing community of about 15 adults and 8 children, having volunteers, personals guests and hosting a group of students regularly! We live on a south facing hill in a nature reserve with only very few neighbours. Our campus is basically a village on its own where there is constant construction! This is where we welcome your help! We share a freshly cooked organic lunch with everyone on campus in our sun-drenched dining hall!

Program Details

Right before arrival, each volunteer gets a partner from within our community who will introduce you to the place and can help you if you have any questions about your stay or if you need someone to talk to or direct you to the best dentist here, etc. Since volunteers have their own house at the moment, it is a little bit up to you to join in community activities such as playing soccer with the kids, barbecue, etc. Or you invite us over for a get-together in the volunteer house!

Once a month we meet for an everyone-living-on-campus plenary assembly to get to know each other better and to discuss campus topics. You are warmly welcomed to join!

Currently, we almost solely need help with our construction projects. This will be your field of tasks with set hours from 8 am - 1 pm (including a coffee/tea/breakfast break) from Monday till Friday. The rest is up to you!

Activities & Shift

We are still trying to figure out how we would like to live, work and learn here together.
In the volunteering hours, you can learn how to…
• use clay as a sustainable plaster material for walls and ceilings
• install electricity
• work with different kind of tools like a cordless drill, impact drill, jigsaw
• use a big professional kitchen and provide food for up to 40 people
• maintain the whole campus-site, f.e. cleaning gutters, caring for the lawns, raking leaves or supporting our gardening-team
Working and being socially involved, e.g. how to work in a team of younger and older people - where some are specialists in certain fields and others beginners (while we all see ourselves as life-long learners!)

It might be interesting for some of you to see how we try and struggle to develop a village where a sustainable and positive future is possible.

Rules

We are a community with many children :) They are around and love to play, visit and help sometimes!
Most of us don't drink or smoke - if you do, please do so reasonably and never leave bottles or cigarette butts anywhere on campus! That would be great! Thanks ;)
