The Experience

When volunteers arrive, we pick them up and take them to the farm where they are provided with a place to stay and meet the family who lives there. The next day they begin their activities in which they suit better. We have a trout farm and they can feed the fish every day, we have a processing plant and they can also learn and help there, and finally, the agroecological farm that is there is suitable for harvesting and helping in permaculture

I spent around a month of time here, the people are nice and really open. I got invited to a lot of different occasions, where I got to experience the Mexican culture and free food :) The accommodation are also decent, you get to live on one of the farms managed under this account. I was on two of them, I had a private room, with bathroom in the first farm and a double room in the second one. The double room felt like a private room though, because there were no other volunteers. Which was for me a bit of a bummer, because I had hoped for more social interaction.

I had the chance to visit two farms / families, both implicated in aquaculture activities and the second one with agriculture as well. The two families, Fabian & Belen and Arizbeth & Alexandro, really made me feel part of their family and their team on the farm. If You choose this option for your next WorldPacker trip, it's really important to keep in mind that this is another way to travel, so it's important to come with an open mind and energy to embrace the whole experience ! As well, a huge thank you to Citlali & Manuel, for the organisation of this experience. I really enjoyed it !

It wasn't our initial interest but it was a nice true Mexican experience for us. We wanted to learn beekeeping but understood that our stay was too short, so it didn't happen. The farm is in the Middle of the jungle, The room is basic, Manuel and Citlali aren't there a lot but kept good communication with us. The family is super lovely! Work hours are kept. We cleaned the fish tanks and took out dead baby fish. There was a day they got an order so we helped to catch the fish and also gut them. We helped the family with dishes - cleaning in general. Thanks to Fabián, Belén, Manuel and Citlali!

The farm I stayed, is in the middle of the forest and surrounded by wonderful nature. My advise would be to ask about everything ahead. From the workload, to if there are clean blankets or even enough toilet paper. Be specific on which farm you want to work at, because for example I was in one with only fishes which wasn't my initial interest. The workers there are very kind, work hours are kept. And Manuel is very nice, kind and will try to help as much as he can. Keep an eye for pulgas!
