The Experience

Our home & business is located in Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island; there are many hiking trails and beaches. We have a yoga room you can use. Help days and hours are flexible if you have some work or schooling to do during your stay. We mostly need help with basic house cleaning and art class preparations. You can learn about running your own business and teaching as well as advertising if you choose. You must love dogs as we have 4 :)

Nanaimo is a beautiful area. Jen and Jim make your stay is extremely cozy, fully-equipped - with everything you need. Keep in mind, during the colder months, your activities will be indoors. I would recommend visiting during the warm/summer season for diverse activity options. I was lucky enough to help Jen's business with marketing related materials and had lots of fun doing that. I also got to witness a newborn puppy! You will love the dogs and all the fun board game. Plus, the bus to downtown is a short walk away.

It was a good experience in a family's house. The accommodation was comfortable and warm. The work wasn't challenging, it was easy to do. Dogs are nice and funny Jen was very busy but we enjoyed helping her with her craft projects. Jim is friendly, communicative, open to sharing his day-to-day life and a lot of fun. Nanaimo was a surprise for its beauty, nature and warm, friendly people. There are lots of parks, restaurants, breweries, cafés and the buses work well by google maps. It was a very worthwhile experience.

I had a wonderful time with Jen and Jim. Playing with their adorable dogs, who had the cutest puppy eyes, was a real treat. Jim's treasure hunt idea on the first day added excitement to our stay, and his creative input made it even more enjoyable. I got to learn some coding from their son, Damien, which was a pleasant surprise and a great learning experience. Our game nights were loads of fun. It was a relaxing way to unwind, and I appreciated the laid-back atmosphere. (specially for beer lovers) And let's not forget Jen's cooking – her sushi was absolutely delicious, and I'm already

As my first-time volunteering I enjoyed every part of it! Jen and Jim are really kind and generous, more than willing to share the Canadian life style with you. They like to hike and they enjoy to play boardgames and you are welcome to join them, feeling like part of the family while you're there. The 4 labs are adorable and very loyal, with their own unique personalities. Also, to get to know how the business of LOST ARTS CLUB works and to be part of its growing was a really good experience as a professional. I cannot thank them enough for the experience! Ps. I miss the dogs.

I absolutely loved my stay! Jen and Jim are really kind hosts, extremely generous and always looking how to make your stay better. I felt at home during the whole eight weeks, exploring the town and the outdoors during the day and playing super cool board games at night. The fact that you can use the yoga room and all the appliances is also a really nice bonus! And of course, if you love dogs you'll definitely love the four chocolate labs. I really recommend this experience to anyone who is looking for a quiet place to hang around nature and have great chats with the locals.
