The Experience

Our current head chefs are Alistair, Ruth & Chala who are skilled in preparing Plant-based, Whole food, Organic, Vegetarian Cuisine. Assist and learn hands-on in the kitchen, from cleaning and chopping veggies, to recipe and menu planning, all the necessary preparations as well as plating. We work on a rotation 6 shifts a week. 2 full days off. We need help to cook but you would also be expected to serve customers and cleaning tasks.

Great experience. The team is amazing, Antwerp is a vibrant city and the accommodation is really good. You can learn a lot too. I'm leaving part of my heart there. Thanks for everything 💖

It was really cool and challenging to work at the school. I believe I have fulfilled my purpose of unlocking my English and knowing a little about Belgium and Antwerp, which is an incredible city. The work can be heavy, I even worked about 11 hours in a single day, there are 6 shifts of approximately 5 hours, being able to work two shifts in a day, totaling 30 hours or more. The accommodation is comfortable and I stayed in a room alone almost the whole month. It was my first experience with voluntary exchange and with work in the kitchen and I recommend this experience.

My stay in Antwerp was my first volunteering experience and I am happy that I chose the school for it. I stayed for 8 weeks and met a lot of very nice people! I also learned a lot about vegan cooking and now know ingredients and meals which I haven't even heard of before volunteering. The location of the BnB is very central and close to a tram station, which is practical. The work is sometimes a bit stressful (when there are many guests) but in general easy and fun. Chala, Ruth and Alistair are extremely welcoming and friendly and I am very happy that I got to know them. :)

It was a very nice experience. Antwerp is a big city and the restaurant has a great location. The accommodation is great and as a couple, we had a room for ourselves. The chefs are super friendly and welcoming. The work varies between helping with the menu, waiting tables, cleaning the restaurant and doing laundry (bed linen for the B&B). As it is a restaurant, the working hours depend on how busy it is, we had 5/6 shifts of +/- 5/6 hours per week. They were flexible on days off and always open to conversation. Overall it is a experience I recommend for those who enjoy restaurant routine 😊

The experience was really nice! The cheffs are really nice, the atmosphere is calm, and you get to meet so many people. The location is fantastic (Antwerp is a big city, so many things to do), and the facilities where you stay are excellent! The work can range from being more chill to a bit more demanding, depending on how busy the place is. It's a dynamic environment. The tasks include cooking, preparing dishes, setting up the restaurant, attending to customers, and sometimes taking care of the laundry (washing, drying, and folding). It was a nice experience! :)
