The Experience

This is a position that is all about growing food, from seedling, to weeding, watering, and plant identification. The last person we had took a machete to a full 4 year stand of sage and destroyed it. We need you to care about what you are working with, respect for the plants, respect for the tools, and a natural curiosity. Bonus points for having read Braiding Sweetgrass before getting here.

It was an enjoyable + chill experience with kind and friendly Airbnb guests, as well as getting to know other volunteers + Susan. The tasks are simple and straightforward, as well as good communication about potential improvements that could be made. There's not a lot going on so be prepared to be a bit isolated if you don't have a car as there's also no public transport. There's an abundance of food available (although be prepared to buy fresh ingredients yourself). I would totally recommend this place if you're looking for some down time to relax and chip away at tasks.

The schedule and volunteer service is simple and straightforward. Susan is extremely intelligent, very respectful, and considerate and she's a very kind-hearted leader. She does her best to maintain a positive environment. Everyone I've met here was awesome and super friendly. Which made things easier... If you want to discover the true meaning of hospitality, understand how to work within a team, learn how to the guest house, and best of all, watch Lupin, I recommend volunteering here. I will always be grateful for everything I have learned here. This is no doubt an experience I will never forget.

We already miss Deandre. Wishing we could clone him, so there are hundreds like him in the world. My personal wish is that he goes on to touch lives, paying it forward, because he has that in him. We can all make a difference in the world, one person at a time.

Susan was a great host and our stay was very hospitable. She's very thoughtful and attentive to her guests. A lot of people from all over come to stay in this lovely haven in Poughkeepsie, for the atmosphere and for the wonderful home cooked meals. Blessings to Susan for letting us stay here.

Eternamente agradecida.

Thank you Javi. We miss you. You left the space better than you found it, and what more could anyone ask for? Your joy and laughter filled this space up, and now it is strangely quiet. Your laughter and enthusiasm is infectious. I hope to see you again. The world is a better place with you in it.
