I really loved my time at the hostel Tortise, everyone there was so lovely, travelers and staff alike. The food was good, the space is lovely and managers were very communicative and helpful with any problems that arose. Also, it didnt hurt that it's incredibly close to a train station, lots of buses, and nextdoor to a farmers market and a grocery store.

Being here for 3 months was a wonderful experience overall. I made a bunch of great friends, it's a perfect environment for both study, as well as bonding with guests and fellow staff. The kitchen is well equipped for all cooking needs which is always something I appreciate in hostels, the beds were very comfy and had curtains for privacy, when in the room people were quite and respectful. I worked the variety of tasks, it wasn't always cleaning, there was also cooking shifts, pub crawl shifts. And reception. The management crew work very hard to keep everyone productive, and accommodated. 🫡

Situated in the heart of Seattle across the street from Pikes Place Market, the hostel is central in the heart to the city, and you get a mix of those who continue their travels, but also the locals who help run GT. The workload for 20 hrs a week aside from the 25 you work from the first week is manageable, albeit abit heavy for a bathroom shift of completing up to 18 private bathrooms in one day, at the time of writing its more of 16. Benefits of enjoying your stay, in a popular destination, enjoy free beer, ice cream, continental breakfast, and a dinner made with care. Thank you!

If you are looking for a place to make great friends, have beautiful experiences, form life-long bonds with the other staff members, this isn't really the place for you. If however you are looking to work 20-25 hours a week being while being micro-managed and being continually reminded by multiple staff members that they are 'in charge' or 'the boss' then this is the place for you. This hostel doesn't seem to have the hostel attitude; a place to work and put your head down. I detached from the place after two weeks. That said, i made several life long friends. Just not with staff
