The Experience

Fire-scaping and permaculture design. Clear brush, tend burn piles, make biochar, dig swales, plant native trees and grasses. Chainsaw, polesaw, weedwhacker use. This work will feel immediately rewarding, the changes to the landscape will be gratifying! Help our family and neighborhood reduce fire hazards by firescaping, ecoforestry, permaculture, and conversion of carbon into wool products.

There's truly so much to learn from Kirsten. She generously shared her knowledge and passion, teaching me how to spin wool on her teaching wheel. We also built a makeshift wash station together. One of my favorite memories was cleaning wool and singing together. I also had lots of time to work independently and had plenty of privacy. Kirsten was very busy but always found moments to chat and make sure I was feeling comfortable and welcomed.

Thank you Julia--it was a pleasure to get to know you--I wish you the best in everything--and keep singing!

I had so much fun staying at Chicken Foot Ranch! The surrounding community is amazing and welcoming. Kiri is a wonderful host- she's incredibly wise and a true fountain of knowledge. I ate lots of yummy food and had plenty of privacy in my cozy loft bedroom. Kiri has many projects on her homestead so be prepared to be busy with stimulating and exciting projects- of course followed up by a relaxing day at the pond. Northern California is beautiful and I recommend this experience to people who want to be more in touch with nature and chilling out!

Louise! You are so fun and easygoing, I felt like you seamlessly slipped into my family life. Thank you so much for your help, my home has never been so fire safe. That was a hard push, and you rolled with it! I'm glad you got to relax too. Thanks also for being a great friend to my teen, you bridged the generations with grace and aplomb.

We had SO many fun conversations! I learned a lot from you. I love to connect with an intelligent young person. May your next adventures be fulfilling, your travel be easy, and may the world open up to you in exciting ways. Bon voyage!
