Volunteering in Alias didn't feel like work, it felt like being home! The tasks very quite easy, the staff who work there were super nice, helpful, sweet, and caring, I got to hang out with other volunteers as well, and everything you need is available there: kitchen, looots of fruit, coffee, tea, etc. Volunteers get a private room, so you can have your privacy, but also hang out with other volunteers and guests in the common area. On our arrival, we got a very detail training from Jens, who was very patient and understanding and even gave us printed notes. A very nice experience, great peopl!
I had the best time at Alias! The permanent staff are so kind and supportive, and I made friends for life in the other volunteers. The work isn’t really difficult, you can read in other reviews, and you really learn a lot. You do need to have some independence and be able to make sensible decisions, but the managers are always only a phone call away if you need them. The cleaning staff are also really kind, so make sure you chat to them. They have interesting stories to tell! You’ll get plenty of free time to explore the city, travel to other cities, or to just chill. There’s free cake too!
I learnt lots and made friends! The reception tasks are easy but when trouble arises you have to be smart and independent enough. I loved being at the reception. Even though sometimes it wasn't busy at all I always found something to do. The volunteers also have to set and clean up the breakfast. Sweep/mop the floors in the common areas. Nothing too complicated but enough to keep you busy for a while. The staff at the reception is great and the shifts are fun when they are around. Just keep in mind that during night shift is common to deal with loud dutchs coming back from parties ;D
