I had the best time at Alias! The permanent staff are so kind and supportive, and I made friends for life in the other volunteers. The work isn’t really difficult, you can read in other reviews, and you really learn a lot. You do need to have some independence and be able to make sensible decisions, but the managers are always only a phone call away if you need them. The cleaning staff are also really kind, so make sure you chat to them. They have interesting stories to tell! You’ll get plenty of free time to explore the city, travel to other cities, or to just chill. There’s free cake too!
I learnt lots and made friends! The reception tasks are easy but when trouble arises you have to be smart and independent enough. I loved being at the reception. Even though sometimes it wasn't busy at all I always found something to do. The volunteers also have to set and clean up the breakfast. Sweep/mop the floors in the common areas. Nothing too complicated but enough to keep you busy for a while. The staff at the reception is great and the shifts are fun when they are around. Just keep in mind that during night shift is common to deal with loud dutchs coming back from parties ;D
I spent four weeks woking at Alias and my trip was amazing! All the staff is there to help you (thank you Neomi, Lies, Nico and Jens), the working hours are fair enough and allows you to travel to many other places. It was a great opportunity to practice my english conversation skills, and handleling with people in general. As my first Worldpackers experience, I couldn't recommend it any better! I'm already looking forward to travel again. For last, but not least, a special thanks to the other volunteers, who made my trip even better: Analice, Linda, Katherin and Rebekah, I miss you guys!
I had the best time at Alias Youth Hostel. Everyone was super nice, respectful and easy going. Honestly, they're just great people. The working hours are fair, the job is without complication: you help with check ins and check outs, you clean and serve breakfast. You still have enough time to visit the beautiful city and move to Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, etc... I recommend this place 100% and would love to be back some day during the summer. Thank you for everything! :)
