The Exchange

We are looking for friendly, energetic volunteers to join our team to support in the running of our busy backpackers hostel in Nottingham City Centre. Igloo Hostel is a well established hostel running for over 20 years offering rest and recuperation for travellers, students and families. We are a multi national team and love the city of Nottingham and what it has to offer, we hope to offer the experiance of the life time to happy applicants!


Title

20 hours of help per week

Night Shift: Help with night shift tasks and create a relaxing environment for guests.

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Program Details

Hours of work per week: Approximately 20-24 hrs per week

Days off a week: At least 1-2 days off per week (depending on how your weekly hours are distributed).

In exchange: Free accommodation is offered in shared dorm style rooms (please note: this is usually a mixed dorm and we sometimes must move guest/volunteers around to make bookings fall into place). Furthermore, we offer a weekly breakfast allowance for you to spend how you see fit. (please note: other than that, you must buy/provide all your own meals and shared self-catering kitchen facilities are available). In addition, things like bedding, towel, wi-fi and laundry facilities are also provided by the hostel free of charge while you are volunteering with us.


Activities & Shift


BY SIGNING UP TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT THE IGLOO YOU WILL SUPPORT US IN A VARIETY OF TASKS THAT MAINLY INVOLVE: GENERAL CLEANING, HOUSEKEEPING, MAKING BEDS AND LAUNDRY. IN ADDITION, POSSIBLY SOME LIGHT MAINTENANCE/DIY WORK, PAINTING, GARDENING, RUNNING ERRANDS AND WELCOMING/HELPING GUESTS. RESPONSIBILITIES CAN ALSO INCLUDE SOME RECEPTION DUTIES WHICH MAY INCLUDE TELEPHONE AND ONLINE BOOKINGS, TOURISM INFORMATION SERVICE,
NIGHT PORTER SHIFTS, & LOOKING AFTER THE EMERCENCY PHONE & ALARMS.


Rules

Our volunteer opportunities / positions are available to nationalities over the age of 18 and suitable for people who are reliable and able to communicate and write in English at high intermediate level. You need to either have a EU / UK passport or the correct visa to work in the UK. It is important that you are flexible, easy-going, open-minded, and willing to work hard to perform the tasks involved, as well as being a sociable person to enjoy the living arrangements within a hostel environment.
We are looking for easy going personalities that are sociable and prepared to ready to roll up their sleeves and not scared of a bit of hard work (minimum of 6 weeks commitment)
