Balarm Hostel

We offer a unique experience in the hospitality sector in a young and motivated team in beautiful Sicily (Palermo). We offer free accommodation and meals or money for food. Looking forward to meeting you!

The volunteers will work five days/week, five hours/day; will sleep all togheter in the staff rooms (with external bathroom and shower); will receive their meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or money to buy it. They can use the hostel fully equipped kitchen and have free wi-fi connection everywhere.

My experience at Balarm Hostel was great!
I was lucky enough to get along very well with the other volunteers.
I was able to improve my English and tour Palermo and even Sicily in one month.
The staff is lovely, the hours are flexible, and the work at the bar and reception isn't complicated at all.
I had this experience in winter, but I think it's even better in summer!
I highly recommend it!

Mi experiencia en BalarmHostel fue muy linda.

Me sentí muy bien acompañada por los que conforman el Staff: Hashan, Thilanka y Lucía son un amor de personas y siempre están atentos a lo que uno necesita. Se nota su responsabilidad y dedicación, por lo que es muy agradable y eficiente trabajar con ellos. Massimo estuvo pendiente al teléfono 24/7, lo cual hizo que todo esté bien organizado, y cumplió con todo lo acordado.

Las tareas del Hostel son llevaderas, los horarios van rotando y es factible tener los dos días off seguidos. El hostel está muy bien ubicado, en pleno centro.

Tuve que cambiar las sábanas de muchas camas, distintas habitaciones, barrer, trapear los pisos (como había tantas camas, me dijeron que no trapeara por ese día). De igual manera, acabé 1h y media más tarde.

Los turnos están divididos en 2 partes del día, lo que dificulta manejar tu tiempo libre porque debes regresar.

Tenía entendido que la vacante era solo recepción y bartending. Solo me quedé un día, la carga era muy pesada y no tenía energías para salir a conocer Palermo. El hostal necesita mucho mantenimiento.

El staff es amable, el dueño no tanto, pero entiendo su descontento.

It was a good experience. I stayed during winter so the hostel were almost empty, however all the volunteers were so kind and the owner was flexible with my needs. Take into account the season to choose the dates of your stay depending on what you want to achieve. I appreciatte that Massimo was able to negotiate and respect the hours assigned for the shifts.
