Dupa Gard - the Permaculture homestead in the Carpathian Mountains

We are a family run project, dedicated to the principals of ecoculture, permaculture and believe in the power of a strong, local community. In order to share our ideas and ideals with the world, we invite tourists to our homestead, to give them the opportunity to experience a long forgotten, sustainable way of living - that might be the blueprint for a better future. If you feel the energy in you to support us, and have some skills in the relevant area, we hope to make our project more known to the world and make it a better place in the long run.

Ioana, over 20 years already, has one big dream: to help her mothers village preserve its unique lifestyle, traditions and nature for future generations. For this she directed several small documentaries about local traditions, invited volunteer groups and supported the local artisans. Then she met Andreas in 2015, they had a child, and the project gained some new inspiration. Since then we managed to set up our small, self sustaining homestead with permaculture garden, as well as a connected eco-tourism ground. We are very excited to let other people experience our lifestyle, and hope you will also like it. Actually, we are pretty sure you will :)

I had a great time with Andreas, Ioana and Dhalia, who are very kind people. Their project is inspiring and I really enjoyed discovering their place and learming about permaculture. There are great hikes around, the surroundings are extremely beautiful.
They also took me to Greece with them for a permaculture Erasmus+ event, which was very interesting. Overall, I am grateful for my time with them:)

My experience here was absolutely incredible! I’ve loved every second of it! From waking up to beautiful mountains,to helping out around the property, learning about sustainability and Permaculture, to getting to eat almost all homegrown meals, to spending time with the family. It was a great trip :)) if your looking for nature, hiking, sustainability and learning about Permaculture I would definitely recommend this place :)))

As someone who grew up in the city, this was a very difference experience than what I am used to. I had a lot of questions and didn’t know how to do many things but everyone was very patient and willing to teach me what to do. You are surrounded by nature so it is a good place to disconnect and immerse in local culture. Andreas and Ioana are dedicated to permaculture and sustainability and I am looking forward to implementing what I learned.

A wonderful place in nature with fantastic hosts. I stayed for 2 weeks and I wish I could stay longer. It has stunning views, easy access, and beautiful hikes on the doorstep. Andreas and Loana are so welcoming and make you feel right at home. The campsite lies right in the heart of nature with all the necessary facilities and a shop very close. Perfect for getting in touch with nature and feeling immersed in local life. Overall, my time here was unforgettable and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

To have volunteered at Dupa Gard was very beneficial for me, especially to get to know more about the diversity of plants in the region and to adapt to a calmer and more peaceful lifestyle. I was warmly welcomed by the family! The amount of work per day is perfectly balanced. I am grateful for having been received and for the joyful moments we shared together!!!
