We are a family, owners of a small organic farm in Tuscany. We produce extra virgin olive oil, vegetables and we also rent some rooms to tourists. WE are also open with our restaurant in the summer time, 4 days a week. It is a quite place, but close to a lot of main towns in Tuscany (Lucca 20 minutes; Pisa 45 minutes; Florence 1 hour; Siena 2 hours).
The helpers can enjoy the nature on the tuscan hills while are surronded of people from all around the world. Near us, you will find restaurants, food festivals, lot of paths to hike and lot of friends. It is a long time that we are sharing our life with volunteers :-) and we love it! Accomodation and food are free everyday of your stay. Please, feel free to ask us any questions!

I can only recommend staying at Forestaria Farm! I helped in the kitchen with another girl - the work is easy and everything is well explained. You’re preparing the food for the guest, which is an easy work. The atmosphere while working is also really nice. You are in the kitchen with Marco, so you always have someone to chat with.
Unfortunately I had to leave earlier than expected due to health problems. Eleonora and Marco were super understanding and it was no problem at all. In general, they are really kind and great people! You‘ll also meet other lovely travellers who‘ll you live with :)

Mi primera experiencia de World Packers y puedo decir que no cambiaría nada de ello!
Eleonora y Marco tenían muy buenos detalles conmigo y con el resto de voluntarias. Como nanny de Lupo, muy bien, algunos días trabajé muchas horas, pero es cierto que se compensaba con los días libres después por lo tanto no tengo queja.
Matraia es un pueblo preciosisimo, ubicado en medio de la montaña, rodeado de naturaleza para los que les gusta es un sitio increíble. Con muchas rutas para poder hacer, buen ambiente
Lo único negativo, es el transporte público que te lleva a la ciudad. Solo es porla mañana

Here is what to expect working in the restaurant at the farm: chopping fruit&veg, making charcuterie boards, doing dishes, & breaking down the patio area. As for the accommodation: you are in an apartment with 7 other volunteers- 2 per room, no air conditioning or fans, and not in the town of Lucca (in Matraia). Many of us found it difficult to find things to do on our days off because we were so far out of town. My favorite part of the exchange was all the girls I lived with :)

This experience was a rollercoaster of emotions! The work at the farm can be stressful, but Marco was always willing to help and answer my questions. Nevertheless I expected more from the apartment: we had stained mattresses, bugs and hives all over the place, no hot water for days. I even didn’t have a bed for some nights since the hosts gave it to a new volunteer cause they hired more people than they could accommodate. U have to buy your own groceries if u wanna eat properly. Buses are very limited on the summer.
The good part is all the amazing people i met and ofc the incredible views!

I don’t recommend this volunteering program.
You don’t actually get the 3 meals a day because they buy really basic food and not enough for everyone so you will need to buy your own groceries.
Our rooms are not the ones shown in the photos, our rooms are basic, with old beds and my sheets had blood stains.
Services like wifi or hot water are limited.
Hosts are rude and talk bad about other girls.
Their son is not “energetic” he is rude and aggressive.
If you get kicked out honestly is one of the best things that could happen to you.
