My time at the finca was unprecedented, it is the dream come true for every horse lover as you get to work with horses every! They are always a lot of volunteers and i found incredible friends for life:) Sth that did bother me is that you are expected to wash the dishes in the kitchen quite often (which does not count as working hours), on top of the already really demanding work with the wild horses:/ Be aware of the fact that you need a lot of experience in working with horses/ riding horses and an adequate level of Spanish

Finca Ixobel is a true gem that offers an authentic and warm introduction to Guatemala. I spent two weeks in December volunteering at Finca Ixobel and had an amazing time. I have had a heartily welcome. My main responsibility was taking care of the horses, which are all friendly but can sometimes be challenging to handle. Therefore, experience with horses and riding skills are essential! I also helped out in the bakery, which was very interesting. The tasks were varied and gave a lot of freedom. The accommodation was simple, located in the middle of the jungle, but without hot water.

we absolutely enjoyed our stay in finca ixobel! Working with the horses was so amazing even though we did not have much experience with horses. Sometimes it was challenging because a few of the horses are more or less wild,
but with the support of our fellow volunteers we learned really much! would really recommend.

I had an amazing time at the Finca. Everyone that works there is so kind, and the work is very fun and tasks/hours are fair. Great place to improve your Spanish as well!

I stayed here for two weeks, and it was the perfect escape from city life. My tasks included caring for the horses and collecting eggs from the chickens, which felt grounding and rewarding. The finca’s community was incredibly welcoming, though it took about a week to truly connect. Be ready for the challenges of rural living—plenty of bugs, ticks, and the humidity caused some of my clothes to grow moldy. Despite these quirks, I absolutely loved the experience and would do it again!
