We are a registered charity and based in a Victorian mansion built in the 1850s. Located in rural Derbyshire we are close to the Dales and Peak District. We have around 35 residents spread across the main building, apartments and houses. We are mixed community of ordained and lay people and families. We host around 5 - 15 volunteers. Our extensive grounds have 38 acres of gardens and parkland, with a small river and woodland walk. The environment is very beautiful, tranquil and restful and is perfect for meditation and reflection.
There are many local walks, a nature reserve and cycle paths. You can also access the Dales and Peak District National Park for days out. The city of Derby is just 8 miles away. Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester are all within one hour travel.

My days in this wonderful place were incredible! Everyone is so lovely and friendly and EVERYONE helps each other out! I really felt part of the whole! The working hours are respected, the work is not difficult, in fact it is a pleasure to be able to help and be involved with something so good! The place is beautiful, the accommodation is very cozy and the food is delicious! I was able to participate in classes and practices and I will certainly continue studying! Thanks to everyone who made this experience so special and contributed to my learning! Tara kadampa is a home! See you soon!

Tara Kadampa was one of the most important volunteer work for me, I met people that I will remember and thank for the rest of my life. The tasks are easy, the room is cozy, the food is delicious and the Center is a real home! It was an immense pleasure to be there, and the meditation classes gave me more direction about Buddhism than which one I intend to follow. thank you all!

My experience in Tara was incredible, the people are very friendly, the jobs are varied, the place is large and surrounded by nature, I loved working in the cafe and sharing with different volunteers, I learned about meditation, I highly recommend this place.

My experience at TARA was amazing! This was my first volunteer and I couldn’t have chosen a better place! People are so kind, it’s a peaceful and quiet space. I joined some meditation classes and they were very nice, specially the lunch time ones.
The centre is in the middle of trees and nature to enjoy, the accommodations are comfortable and clean. Dorms are separated: female and male, but bathrooms are shared, but they’re always clean.
Food at lunch and supper is delicious and more than enough.
It’s easy to get there from Derby bus station, just a 20 min ride in the Villager.
