Kinloch Wilderness Retreat

We offer a relaxed space for you to enjoy stunning wilderness, which many people miss on their travels as the road ends 12kms down from us (you can drive to us). There are mountains everywhere you look and we're right by Lake Whakatipu. We have lots of staff and volunteers for you to buddy up and adventure with in the summer, winter is our quiet time, and plenty of down time for you.

We're a busy family with many businesses to run. Where we can find time to socialise with volunteers we do so, however you are part of a business rather than a family home. We do expect a certain standard of work for your 15hrs a week, then the rest of the day is for you to explore or relax.

The owners had the mindset that the staff were tryna cut time or eat too much of the meal provided. The task were the same that staff did, so I was doing the same for way less. They calculate the money too a little funny because they charge you 67$/night so in my first week I was in minus because they didn't give me that much hours. Nice place but greedy hosts. For the manager it was the opposite she was a good leader and we felt valued by her so it would be nicer if the owners weren't involved. I would recommend applying for a job through their website so it won't feel like exploitation.

10/10 would recommend. We would have stayed for longer if we could have. Toni and John are so lovely. This is a family business and you get what you put into it! That being said expect to work hard and I would definitely recommend having a car so you can get around. The nearest town is around 30 minutes away so come prepared with any groceries you may need. The team was very receptive to us wanting to work more and there is such a fun team environment that makes everyone feel like family. This is an incredible experience and I would highly recommend especially for a longer term opportunity.

This was my first time using Worldpackers, and I had a great time overall. Initially, I thought it was a volunteer opportunity, but it turned out to be a paid position, which was a nice surprise. Toni John, and T were amazing and made me feel like part of the family. Working in the mountains was refreshing, and it was cool to meet staff from all over the world. One thing to note is that Kinloch is quite remote, so having a car would definitely be helpful. Overall, I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a unique adventure and a friendly atmosphere!

This is short-term employment. If you think otherwise you will likely be disappointed, but with that understanding they are great.

Thanks Jarod, we do try to make it clear that this is a business so thank you for reinforcing that and for all your work.

Kinloch is a beautiful location to spend a few weeks. The people I met during my time were the highlight of my experience. The work was always enjoyable, and there are plenty of hours going if you want to earn a bit of extra money here.
