Little Bungalow Guest House

We are in a beautiful and quiet area of Chicago. It is very safe. We are near the train and the highway so it is easy to get to the City Center (10-11 miles from the house.) To repeat, it is near the train and not near the city center. The rental space is like a home.

Thank you so much for your patience as I am only on this website once a week, at best. Volunteers will be given some supervision and assistance in the beginning few days. After that, they will be managing the list of responsibilities and tasks that is given to every volunteer. If they need assistance or get overwhelmed, I can come and help them. The O'Hare Guest House has room for volunteers that take their commitment seriously. There will be time to show them around Chicago on the weekends and show them my favorite areas of the city. Also, if the weather is good, we make a trip to the Chicago Botanic Gardens. www.chicagobotanic.org We also do a "American BBQ (barbecue) project" where we have a BBQ party in the backyard's garden. We'll invite friends and practice English with the guests and eat barbecue food.

My stay was very nice, the place was cozy, the tasks weren’t difficult and I had time to know the city and meet friends. I had to work for 4-5 hours and the tasks were keep the house clean, be attentive about guest check-in and check-out, and do laundry sometimes. Also, Mary always needs to know everything so if something change with your stay, tasks, schedule or something else, it’s appropriate that you talk to her, the communication and patient is the key to do this volunteer.

I had an amazing experience at this house. The tasks are not so hard, the house's enviroment is good, Mary cares about the volunteer. The house is not so far from the subway station, you also have the local commerce close. It was my first time with worldpackers and it couldn't be better! I'm very happy and grateful for lived that great experience!

When I stayed at Mary's Little Bungalow, I used this time to improve my English, my knowledge on American culture and explore Chicago, its museums, parks, shows, libraries, the amazing landscape etc. I recommend this volunteering program if you have similar goals. You will have to work at the house for around five hours, but you can use the remaning time as you wish. Our host Mary usually takes two volunteers so you will probably have company and help to perform your duties. If you wish, you can contact me for more tips to enjoy your stay even better. You can always talk to Mary for any diffic

5. Tareas constantes, sin ímite horario.

I don't understand where you received your information.
I'm sorry your *21 hour* stay at the house was such a negative experience. Of your 21 hours here, you slept 8 of them.
We asked you what we could do to change to make it better or to entice you to stay longer and you didn't say any of this from your review Everyone was surprised, including the volunteers. Below is my response to your claims.
1. I have walked to the city train for many years and it always takes me 15 minutes with the exception of days when it's snowing. Anyone can see it on Google maps from the house address. I lived in that house from 1967 to 1995. The walk was never 30 minutes, as a child or as an adult. And I’ve never had 1 single volunteer complain about the walk. Did you get lost on the way to the train?
2. Please ask me before assuming there is no yoga class. I've been doing yoga since 2016 2 mornings per week at 7:30am. Most volunteers don’t join us, but some do join in. But you could always ask me about it.
3. You were here for approximately 22 hours total and we didn't go to the store for food. If the food has an expiration date, you should throw it out. I do not inspect your kitchen, or your cabinets or your food. Once volunteers get food, they are free to do what they want with it.
4. You were given a shared room with a lock on the door, but you exchanged your bedroom with another volunteer, Monaliza. I had a volunteer return from a bad roommate situation after finishing her volunteer term 2 weeks earlier. She traded with you the only space available for her, which was the sofa bed. She had the sofa bed because there was no space remaining in the house for her unplanned arrival. She had no place to go. I'm not sure what agreement you both concluded but you chose her sofa bed. But we made you a bed in the Volunteer room.
5. Why would you assume there are no time limits? You did not work one single day here. Volunteers have jobs, they have friends, and go out and finish by 2pm or earlier. Since you didn't even work during your few hours there, what information do you have?
