My name is Ty (pronounced 'Tee'). I was born in 1972. I live in Hong Ngu, Vietnam. I have a wife and 2 young children. They currently live in Ho Chi Minh City while I work in Hong Ngu. I started an English Center in 2015 to help the less fortunate children in the area learn English. I enjoy coffee, music, soccer, and the occasional beer. We are looking for volunteers to speak English with our student. We are in Hong Ngu Town, Dong Thap Province. We have the sweetest children that are so interested to learning English from foreigners. Please come to visit our center. We opened this English Center to help children who don't have a lot of money. We rarely have many chances to speak english with foreigners. We have no foreigners in this town. Thus, we'd love if you could come speak to them and help them practice English. If you have no experience in teaching or if you are not confident - do not worry! Our primary goal is for the children to speak to you. You do not have to be a professional at teaching - just be a fun and kind person. This is a very relaxed environment. - You will eat free Vietnamese food every day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) - You will be immersed in Vietnamese culture - there are no foreigners in the area - You can explore the small town (island, ancient pagodas, temples…) in your free time. Many local people will smile or say hello to you Free accomodation: You will live with us in our English center or small apartment room next to the center. You will sleep in a small apartment next to the center with air con, a matress, a blanket, and a pillow. Getting here is really easy. Purchase a bus ticket through Futabus to Hong Ngu. When you arrive, we will pick you up at the bus station on a motorbike. Our English Center is a 3 minute motorbike ride from the bus station. I didn't quite know what to expect as Hong Ngu is a really small city. The centre is at one end of the city; but its within walking distance to the town center.
It seems like all the students in the city study at My Uc Ac Centre. Its always buzzling with students from 8am. Am amazed by the commitments of both the students (ranging from 5 to 26 years old) and Ty.
The facilities at the centre are very basic but that did not deter the enthusiasm of the students to learn.
The accommodation is not luxurious; but the essentials are there & Ty is there to make sure i was comfortable & well fed!

Eve is really a kind teacher, great English and full enthusiastic, in spite of her short time stayed with center, she supported our student a lot of things, spoke English many levels at our center. She also gave us some foods from Singapore and so delicious!

I absolutely loved every moment I got to spend at My Uc Au Centre. Mr Ty is incredibly hospitable, thoughtful and friendly individual, ensuring that I was well looked after throughout my whole stay, whether it was helping me with transportation, providing the best meals one could ask for and also being a wonderful person to converse with and get to know. The students here are passionate and an absolute joy to teach, and I already miss the kids dearly. I got many opportunities to play sports with the community, get to know the students in a meaningful way and I felt I made a good social impact.

Sorry for my reply a little late! firstly, we really have an deep emotion with a letter which Marcus left us on the board. I and all of students here miss Marcus a lot and yearn to see Marcus one day in the future. He is a young teacher but he has full energy and enthusiasm. He is suitable with many speaking levels, not picky about food, ready to help us any time and specially Marcus loves children a lot, he can teach them, play with them, make them laugh, ...

Volunteering at Ty's Centre for 2 weeks was an incredible and unique experience that would be benefit anyone, regardless of experience.
Ty is a very considerate host who makes sure every volunteer is as happy as possible. He happily meets any dietary requirements with a variety of delicious food, and makes an effort to match volunteers with students of equivalent competency.
Volunteers have lots of autonomy with the lessons, and the students (~5-20y) are so friendly!
Each day is different and there is flexibility with work hours so you still have time to explore the beautiful small city.

This was such a wonderful experience, I thoroughly recommend it. My daughter and I had an amazing time. Ty treated us like family, the accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the food was superb!! We are vegan and Ty made sure we always had plenty of delicious food to eat. All the children at the centre were all so welcoming and friendly, it was a pleasure to spend time with them each day. The town has a lovely park and swimming pool which we visited in our free time. We were very sad to leave and wish we had planned to stay longer but already know we will be back one day. Thank you
