Samata Shiksha Niketan - Bhaktapur
Samata is an NGO with branches in every district of Nepal, its aim is to give affordable education while keeping high educational standards.
Samata school in Bhaktapur is a big family, loving and welcoming. Here you'll meet lots of friends. As a volunteer we'll treat you as one of us while you will have the flexibility to explore the amazing world heritage site Bhaktapur and the beauty of the surroundings of the Kathmandu valley. Your skills are invaluable for us and you will be invited to impart classes at different levels, organizing workshops and activities and take part in events, activities and festivals. We don't have great economical resources but we are rich in human capital. We would like to raise some funds to improve the infrastructures of the school. We would kindly ask 5 usd per day to help cover for your food & accommodations. Samata is awaiting you!!!

This was my first volunteering experience and it has set the greatest impression. I was here for 6 weeks teaching English to all ages which in turn allowed me to develop a variety of communication techniques. The children at the school are all so lovely and engaging outside of lesson too. Those who stay over at the hostel, it felt like a family and they were very welcoming. We often played games on an evening together. The food that was provided by the school was delicious and the accommodation was cozy. I thoroughly enjoyed my whole time spent here. I would recommend to all!

It was my first time volunteering and it was amazing! The food was delicious and the kids were so sweet and welcoming. I have so many wholesome memories and I really recommend this place!

I had a nice time staying at the school. The kids are wonderful, and I miss them so much! They were always helpful and sweet. I mostly spent my time with the kids and the other volunteers, which was a great experience. Shova was also helpful and kind. She let me take a day off when I was sick, and helped me to get a doctor. Teaching was enjoyable, however it could be a bit difficult as some of the kids didn't understand english, and there were not teachers helping me. The two available rooms are not the one in the pictures, and the washrooms are quite unsanitary. Even so, I loved my stay!

I had an absolute amazing time at the school. The kids are so sweet, funny and intelligent. They loved to spend time with us and we made so many memories.
During the work hours we worked as real teachers, had our own classes and were free to plan our own lessons. In the beginning it was challenging, but we had so much fun when we got used to the work. The students where so enthusiastic and did the work we presented wholeheartedly. Shova always made sure we where comfortable and adjusted our schedule to our preference.

I would highly recommend volunteering at Samata Shiksha Niketan in Bhaktapur!
- Shova, the school principal is a great host, warm, accommodating, and always kept my interests first. She gave me the flexibility to pick the content I was teaching and made changes to the current timetable to allow me to teach Grades 9 and 10.
- The students and staff who live on campus made me feel at home, and always gave me company- I miss spending time with them!
- The day schoolers were exceptional too, so respectful, kind and always asking how I was doing, and If I had eaten :)
