Hi! My name is Carlos and I've been in the hospitality business nearly all of my life. I am a Filipino-American who was born in Virginia, raised all over the world due to my family being part of the diplomatic corps (an ambassador and diplomats) but finally settled down in New York where I lived for most of my life before deciding to move to the Philippines. My goal is to offer my guests a bespoke holiday experience that is intimately tailored to your/their needs. And since I only offer 4 rooms, I am able to provide all of my guests with a personal touch that is not found in most other accommodations; this is why my mantra for over a decade has been: Check-in as a guest, check-out as a friend. That's the very essence of the Stone Creek House experience. I treat my staff as a team and family; for we are nothing without each other and share a symbiotic relationship because of this. And as a volunteer you can expect to experience this too while working at my restaurant and staying at the hotel.

My experience in Romblon was just amazing! Carlos and his family made it feel like home away from home. I was able to disconnect from the usual city lifestyle, enjoy different cultures, meet different people and of course, had the best food you could ever imagine! Everybody on the island is amazing people and I was able to form great relationships with everyone. The accommodation was amazing, everything that shows in the details is what you get and more. I also felt very safe on the Island, everyone will make you feel welcome and they love to have tourists around hehe :) Thanks 4 everything <3

I absolutely loved my time on Romblon and was sad to leave by the end of my trip. I have left with life long memories and learnt so much in the short time I was there. When I arrived on the island Carlos and the staff instantly made me feel welcome. As a former bartender, Carlos pushed me to experiment with my mixology skills and create unique cocktails for his restaurant. It was the first time I was given free rein to create whatever I wanted and it was extremely fun trying new things and sharing them with the regulars.

Awwwww! We ALL absolutely MISS YOU and definitely could have used your help tonight! Sooooo BUSY!! This is the worst part about the volunteer program....saying goodbye for now. But we know we shall see you again! Cheers!

My volunteering experience at Stone Creek House / Smōhk Restaurant was incredible. Carlos and his family welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I’m part of the family. The local staff was so nice to me and I learned a lot about their food and culture. The tasks were easy and straightforward compared with a lot of fun. Anyone who comes here will have the time of their life and learn so many things. 100% recommended!!

Absolutely! She's always on time and met and surpassed all of my requirements and expectations. And she connected with my family, team and even the local community. She also helped me to improve my German and taught my staff how to make a traditional German schnitzel with creamy mashed potatoes. A wonderful girl who is easy to work with.

Such an awesome experience! Carlos and his family are one of the kindest people I've met. He treats his staffs like they are part of their family. In fact, they have a main admin named Ate Airen who is still working with them for more than 20 years now. I had a very nice room. Aside from that, I had free drinks and delicious food from the restaurant. In general, the locals are nice and I feel protected anyway because Carlos is known in the town. This experience is worth trying and I'll be happy to assist everyone from here to guide and give some tips about the island. Just message me anytime!

Romblon is a beautiful place and so is its people. Volunteering at Smohk goes beyond waitressing at the restaurant and has a lot to do with connecting with locals, mainly through the staff, and feeling at home in the island. Work-wise, it’s pretty straightforward. Working hours are clear but flexible and the days off are given accordingly. The accommodation is absolutely incredible, offering the volunteer all the comfort and private necessary. Carlos, the host, his helpers and his family are extremely kind, helpful and patient. 10 out of 10!
