Suan Lahu Organic Coffee Farm

La experiencia de Voluntario en Suan Lahu ofrece la oportunidad de conocer y experimentar en profundidad la vida de la comunidad Lahu. Al mismo tiempo, permite aprender y aplicar en terreno técnicas de manejo sustentable de ecosistemas productivos.

El equipo de trabajo esta constituido por Lo-Ue y Carina, socios fundadores de Suan Lahu. Lo-Ue es director de producción y tostador jefe desde 2012. Aplicando los conocimientos agrícolas que adquirió en agricultura ecológica, este amante de la diversión y padre de tres hijos está en el corazón de la organización. Además Lo-Ue dirige el Programa de Visitantes de Suan Lahu, recibiendo y acogiendo a los visitantes de la granja. Por su parte, Carina lleva mucho tiempo vinculada a los agricultores de su área de investigación. Madre de dos hijos, tiene formación en enseñanza de idiomas, antropología social y cooperación al desarrollo. Desde 1998, Carina ha investigando cuestiones étnicas entre los aldeanos Lahu de las tierras altas de Asia Sudoriental. El equipo de la granja se formó para debatir los retos medioambientales, pero se establecieron para aprovechar el potencial económico de la finca ecológica. Carina ha ayudado al equipo de Suan Lahu a establecer relaciones en torno a estas materias.

I could write a book about how amazing and transformative this experience was- but I only have 600 characters and will emphasize, volunteer here and experience it for yourself.

Suan Lahu quickly became my home away from home. The work is engaging and physically demanding- leaving you with the satisfied feeling of actually providing help and contribution. Lo-Ue is the kindest human I've ever known. Himself, his family, the other workers, and Carina went above and beyond to make me feel accepted. The coffee and food is outstanding. I miss it already and will return to volunteer again soon :)

I truly enjoyed my stay at Suan Lahu farm. The farm is huge and beautiful so there is always a lot of things to do. The accomodation was really good too, I had my own room the food is really really good and tasty.
But be aware that after 16:30 you are "alone" in the farm. indeed all the workers go back to their home for lunch and after works, but the village they live is about 5 minutes by walking from the farm. Be also prepared to the fact that almost none of the workers there speak English, but no worries, all the staff is adorable, really helpful and we can understand each other.

loue and his family are all really nice and funny people, we had a good experience with them. The tasks are not as described , we didnt have much contact with coffee and it was mainoy about construction wich wasnt mentioned previously. We didnt get to know much to Carina but she didnt treat us very well, she was a bit disrespecful distrusting us without any reason.

Our experience in Suan Lahu was very good. We stayed for 10 days aprox. The family invited us to the New year party in Chiang Mai and there we had a great time connecting to the people, we are very greatfull for that.
The work time is exactly the same as it is written in Worldpackers: we worked 5 hours a day doing different activities in the farm (compost, building the pig farm, etc).
We highly recommend this experience, the only thing we thought could be better is that you live a bit apart from the family and the locals, so normally you could feel a bit lonely in your free time.

This place surrounding by nature and mountains is peaceful and very chill. Spending time with Lahu people and learning about their culture is one of my best experience. Host LoUe is truly amazing and very funny guy. His team is very easy going and make you feel very comfortable. I highly recommend this place if you looking for unique and authentic experiences.
