Villa Eshta

We are a charming hostel located right next to the beach in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico. We are currently going through a transitional phase and updating a lot of our units and modifying some procedures.

Come help make a difference in an evergrowing community. We are located one block away from the up-and-coming Calle Loiza (Loiza Street) - full of eateries, bars, supermarkets, fruit stands, restaurants, and cafes. Most things are within walking distance, or a very cheap Uber ride away. Check out the iguanas in the streets of San Juan.

We harvest our own basil/oregano in our garden, we practice Spanish/English with locals, and we encourage artists to let out their creativity with some mural paintings. There's heaps to do, and so much to learn in terms of Puerto Rican culture/history/museums/cuisine.

We are social and familiar. We like to make all our staff and guests feel part of a community, so in the evening we all hang out in the patio and later there is always the opportunity to explore Calle Loiza together. We know as a volunteer you are away from home, so any necessity you may have, feel free to communicate it to either the manager or the owner. We always make our best to make Villa Eshta a home.

First of all the location is great and the island is beautiful. I love PR and will come back. If you want to volunteer here, be ready to voice your opinion, follow every rule strictly and stand by your boundaries. The work is easy and the hostel is quiet except on Sundays. Wallgreen is just across the street, and the beach just 5 min away. I recommend a portable fan tho. Also use lots of mosquito spray and earplugs for the loud AC in the room. Party island so be prepared! Volunteering here is illegal, so don’t have your connection flight from Europe but USA. Love Cleo 🐈‍⬛Message me for +

San Juan is a great city, the culture is vibrant, there's tons to do, Villa Eshta is only a couple mins walk to the beach, and the other volunteers I was with were absolutely amazing!! Puerto Rico is incredible and I can't wait to come back one day. At Villa Eshta, the work was easy and very clear. The hours were fair and the host was willing to cover a shift if needed. However there were times when I felt uncomfortable with the men at the hostel (guests, host, housekeeper, etc.). The men at the hostel would often make flirty comments and be overly touchy. Message me if you want more info!

First I want to start by saying this is by far the best volunteer experience I have had with Worldpackers, everyone was truly amazing here, Im going to miss the friends I’ve made in villa eshta they were truly amazing and so was Walid he definitely was the best host, he takes care of his volunteers and makes sure we are taken care of and comfortable, I really wish I could of stayed longer, the work here was very easy and fair, and team dorm had air conditioning and was always kept up with the cleanliness, also lots of things to do around the area and places to eat nearby.

Loved my stay here!! I met so many cool people! Walid, the owner, is really chill and protective of the volunteers so the environment felt very safe. We had our own private part of the hostel which was nice! The chores were all reasonable and expectations were clearly communicated. All the people that worked there were really sweet and warm. Cleo the cat was awesome. Overall, a great first experience! changed my life :D
