Waponi Amazon
"Welcome to our community! There are several reasons why we believe you should choose us as your volunteer destination. Let me mention some of the main ones:
1. Breathtaking natural landscapes: Within our community, you'll be surrounded by stunning natural scenery. From refreshing yourself in a small stream that originates from the mountains, to exploring completely natural trails leading to waterfalls, mighty rivers, and long walks beneath giant trees. The beauty of nature will leave you speechless.
2. Cultural immersion: Here, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the Amazonian indigenous people. You'll get to know their culture, language, and customs firsthand. It will be a rewarding experience that allows you to understand and appreciate their way of life.
3. Connecting with the youth: You will meet the children in our community, who attend school and enjoy games and activities in harmony with the environment. Their smiles and their ability to interact with nature will captivate and inspire you.
4. Accessibility: Although we are located in a remote area, accessing our community is not complicated. You can easily reach us during any season of the year, making it convenient for your participation and enabling us to welcome volunteers at any time.
We are excited to have you in our community and share a unique and enriching experience with you. We hope you join us soon!
My name is Moi, I am an indigenous Ecuadorian. My mother is Waorani, and my father is Kichwa. Lastly, we have Esther, who is the teacher. We are the ones who will welcome you into our home. I consider myself a fun and friendly person, and if time permits, I could be a good guide and ensure that you have the best possible experience in our community.
Speaking of my mother, she is a strong, hardworking, and wise woman. She can teach you about the ancestral weaving techniques of our handmade crafts, which I'm sure you will love. She can also share stories about our indigenous worldview, the elders, and more.
My father is also a strong and hardworking man. If you engage in conversation with him, you might find that it's hard to stop talking. He loves sharing stories of all kinds and could even try to teach you the native languages that we know.
Esther is the teacher who has been accompanying us for over a year, providing education to the children in the community. Currently, she has 16 children from different ages and levels attending school in 2020-2021. It would be of great help to her if you could assist her in the classes.
We will treat you with respect and equality, just like everyone else in the community. When you arrive, my home will be your home for as long as you wish to share with us.
