Whirling Sands, Enchanted Hearts Dance of Life in Morocco Tagounite Berber Oasis
Tagounite, is a place where the beauty of the Sahara is not just a sight to behold but an experience that touches the soul. It's a realm where you learn to perceive the immaterial, see the invisible, and hear the inaudible, connecting you to the very essence of this mesmerizing desert.
Nestled in the heart of Tagounite, a Kasbah of Tabout Architecture, Tagounite's architecture is a tribute to the age-old traditions of rammed clay construction with a touch of local Berber influences. Its weather-worn imperfections tell the stories of the time, and its wabi-sabi nature effortlessly blends with the desert's golden hues. The two-room volunteerrooms, and communal spaces like the dining room, lounge, salon, and yoga pavilion are thoughtfully designed to foster connections among guests, while cozy nooks offer solitude for those seeking introspection.
The true allure of Tagounite lies in embracing the 'art of imperfect beauty.' Using authentic local materials and surfaces, it captures the history of the region and weaves it into modern-day simplicity. This is where the past and the present converge, unveiling authentic details, timeless design, and simple, seasonal local cuisine. It's a celebration of the simple way, the desert way.
In a world racing with the speed of information and distractions, Tagounite invites you to slow down and reconnect with your inner self. Amidst the relentless hustle and bustle, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. In Tagounite, you'll find a space for meaningful connections, not only with others but with your own essence.
Rediscovering yourself takes time, and it's not just about learning how to listen; it's about deepening your understanding over a lifetime. Through real-life experiences, you come to know yourself, find your true passions, and make sense of your desires.
Slowing down isn't merely a matter of pace; it's about becoming aware, processing your experiences, and understanding your emotions. Engaging in meditation and contemplative practices, you gradually acquaint yourself with your soul's depths. It's about embracing all aspects of yourself, without judgment, and crafting a life that's genuinely your own.
The desert naturally fosters contemplation, inviting you to slow down, practice stillness, and learn to be alone without distractions. In the vastness of the Sahara, you can immerse yourself in the present moment, lose yourself in the work at hand, and reconnect with your core.
Consider the desert as a reset button, a gift that Tagounite offers to those who venture into its embrace. Here, you'll reacquaint yourself with the rhythms of your own soul, finding a sense of stillness that's increasingly rare in the modern world.
Tagounite is more than just a place; it's a philosophy brought to life by its founder, Zaid Yassine. It serves as a 'gathering place' for meaningful interactions, blurring the boundaries between locals and guests. Owned and lovingly restored by Mohamed Yassine, Mohamed's grandson, this small Kasbah nestled in a Date Palm Grove is a living testament to rich Berber culture and traditions. The collaboration with local artisans and craftsmen, using traditional techniques and reclaimed materials, has given Kasbah Tagounite a soul and a unique Berber character.
At Tagounite, we offer an authentic and simple experience, with attention to every detail that allows you to immerse yourself in the local desert way of life. Our commitment to preserving the traditions and heritage of the Sahara is unwavering.
Surrounded by stunning landscapes, offering simple boho accommodations and dedication to the minutest of details, Tagounite provides the perfect backdrop for your special events, workshops, or retreats. Our philosophy is a blend of gathering and wanderlust, a profound invitation to explore the depths of the desert and your own soul. We can't wait to welcome you and show you the true essence of Tagounite in person.
Hello and Salam Alaykum, I'm Mohamed, a 22-year-old Moroccan with a passion for travel and a deep appreciation for the beauty of our planet and its diverse cultures. My journey in life is guided by a profound desire for adventure, a connection with nature, and a continuous thirst for knowledge.
Over the years, I've worked on overcoming my anxiety and, in the process, I've learned the art of recognizing the intricate beauty in our differences, a journey that's rooted in respect and humility for others and their cultures. My conversations often take unexpected yet enlightening turns due to my patience, listening skills, and compassion for others.
When I'm not engrossed in a good book, you'll find me amidst nature, learning a new language, basking in the sun, drawing inspiration for writing, or embarking on journeys into the unknown. I'm a strong advocate for animals and have dedicated my time to volunteering at a cat shelter, fostering dogs, and recently adopting a kitten. My respect for our beautiful planet Earth and all its beings runs deep.
Learning new things comes naturally to me, and I relish immersing myself in novel experiences. I aim to accomplish what may seem unattainable, all while steering clear of smoking and maintaining a balanced approach to socializing. My ultimate goal is to create a comfortable and joyous environment for those around me.
My knowledge of the desert and gardening is extensive, and I have an eclectic taste in music, including the rich sounds of Berber and Arabic musicians.

Let me introduce you to our projects:
🌴 The Farm 🌴
Our farm, a dream brought to life by Zaid, our CEO and my dad, is more than just a piece of land. It's a place where we aim to foster connections and create a sense of community, blurring the lines between locals and guests. The farm, located 3 kilometers from Tagounite's city center, is a haven for palm trees, orange trees, corn, and more. We're planning to transform a traditional Berber building into a guest house with authentic furniture. Our vision is to welcome guests who can actively participate in growing vegetables and fruits.
Tasks at the farm include planting, watering, harvesting, and constructing living spaces. We've got exciting plans for building a large living area and a bathroom, as well as covering water reserves, occasional water collection, and much more.
🏠 The House and Garden 🏠
We reside in a charming house in Tagounite with a peaceful garden and a rooftop that's undergoing renovation. Our goal is to make this place as homely as possible. We're open to your suggestions and collaborations with artists who'd like to contribute to the house or garden.
Tasks here include repairing the mud wall with traditional mud bricks, transforming the rooftop into a fantastic living area, tending to the garden with coriander, corn, pomegranate, palm trees, and even cotton, housekeeping, decorative painting inside and outside the house, and constructing a chill area in the garden.
As we embark on this journey, we're in the early stages, and we have numerous ideas and projects to pursue. Currently, we're working on organization and planning, and any help in project management is highly welcome.
Tasks on our to-do list encompass setting up house rules, defining project objectives, establishing a daily timetable, removing the sand and mud layers on the roof, fixing the outside wall using traditional Berber construction methods, general house maintenance, creative wall paintings, and tending to our house garden.
In essence, we appreciate any help you can offer, and we're excited to explore the Tagounite surroundings with you. Let's make this journey an adventure worth cherishing!
