It’s nice to remember that Europe is different from the European Union (EU). The EU is an economic and political union of 28 countries. It allows free movement of goods, capital, services and people (including visitors!) between member states. When it started in 1951, only Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands participated. On the other hand, the continent of Europe comprises 50 countries. There are several nations with territory in both Europe and Asia like Turkey and Russia. They are considered to be “transcontinental”.
Eastern Europe is a term with many definitions! For people who travel to Europe, like tourists or backpackers, it usually refers to countries like Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Croatia, Slovakia and others. These countries are known as generally cheaper than Central or Western Europe. In Prague you can find beer as good as in Munich! In Krakow you can learn about the world’s history by visiting Auschwitz and other museums. In Viena you can experience the Opera! Buda Castle in Budapest dates back to 1265! The region is definitely worth visiting if you enjoy saving money while having amazing experiences.
