Vatia Beach Eco Resort

Vatia Beach Eco Resort is an eco-tourism gem on the Sun Coast, in northern Viti Levu; Fiji's main island.

This boutique resort - which has been in operation since the 1970s - came under new ownership in April 2014 when a Spaniard trio who were living in Australia, left everything behind to pursue their dream of running a sustainable resort in Fiji. Vatia is situated on a stunning white sandy beach on a secluded peninsula that gets some of the best sunsets on the island!

The aim of the project is to boost the tourism in a responsible manner, giving the priority to our peoples and the environment. The main concept is to design and develop wonderful functional spaces whilst maintaining the surroundings as they were found initially.

There are different skill sets we are looking for like:

- Farming (Permaculture, Aquaponics)
- Gardening
- Solar Energy
- Handyman Work (Plumbers, Carpenters, Roofers, etc.)
- Photography
- Video Making
- Social Media
- Administration
- PR and Marketing

Volunteers are welcome to have free accommodation, in exchange for two weeks helping us out with the project. If this is something you would like to get involved, please get in touch with us.

IMPORTANT: Fiji Immigration is getting rough with volunteer assistance, they want to boost local work that means that volunteers have to follow three steps on their arrival:

1. Have a flight out of Fiji within the next three months after their arrival
2. Tick "other" or "voluntarism" in their arrival card
3. Volunteer for no more than two weeks

We will send you a confirmation with a letter to inform you about all these steps. If you are planning to stay longer or you want to help us out for three months, further arrangements can be done. We will cover immigration expenses.

This is a great opportunity to start this new project from the very beginning with us and co-create an amazing place to come hang out, relax and disconnect from everything else which we believe is what we all need from time to time!!

Of course you will have the chance to learn about the Fijian traditions and get a better understanding of their beautiful culture. Visits to local villages and other exotic places will be arranged. There are also plenty of activities that can be done at Vatia like kayak, volleyball or bike riding. We love to have fun!!

Eduardo, Rafael and Marcos, a multi-talented team with strong views on sustainability, off the grid experience, respect for local community and the environment. Now you know the famous Spanish trio, you will find in Vatia Beach our warm and friendly staff: Donnie, our indo fijian manager, and somehow the actual boss. La the kitchen ace dare to try her pancakes. Luisa, she wants to speak french! Shiwa, our kitchen hand and housekeeper, a bit shy but has great customer service . Nishaal his real passion is kitchen and kava. Pita, the garden has no secrets for him. This is the big Family. You will feel like at home!!

I had an incredible experience in Vatia Beach, had the chance to know the fijian culture through the staff and their families, and that was just so beautiful!!
Vatia beach was my home for a month and i found this incredible people to share my day to day life, more volunteers and guests. I got to see the most amazing sunsets, enjoy kava nights, and just happy days with loads of music and happiness.
There's a lot of work to get done! So if you are a motivated person i would fully recommend this place for you.
Im greatful i got the chance of being a part of this sustainable project!

Vatia Beach has a lot of potential to be a fantastic place, unfortunately it is not quite there yet.. The owners were lovely however they don't visit the property that often and we felt that there was some disconnect between what we were advised on and the actual situation. If you are looking to enjoy some relaxation (there's a lot of down time) and like to rough it go for it, unfortunately we decided to cut our visit short after a week. I hope that in the future everything will work out and that they can move forward with their exciting ideas

waking up with a pink sky on the sea that you can see from your dorm, taking the board and going to do some yoga on the sea, having breakfast talking with volunteers from all over the world, spending your day with the staff and some guests waiting for a purple, green blue and orange sunset, some fire on the beach and the most beautiful sky at night. that was pretty much the reason why i stayed two months at Vatia.
the work can be confusing some times, they have many plans and everything is Fiji time, but i absolutely recommend it, it was a great experience for me.

Waking up to the sound of waves gently crashing on the beach. Venturing out of your room to the welcoming smiles of the Vatia Beach staff and fellow guests. Eating breakfast on the terrace overlooking a patch of paradise. I've only been back a few hours and already I'm missing the place. Staff went out of their way to accommodate my every need. In return, I got some wonderful opportunities to hone and develop my photography skills and build my professional portfolio. For those considering applying, I'd highly recommend it. Thank you Vatia Beach - I'll be back :)
