I had a great experience while volunteering with children in the slums through the organization SYI. It was both a wonderful and challenging journey. SYI was always there to support me, promptly addressing any questions or concerns I had along the way. Additionally, I am grateful for the hospitality of my host family. I stayed with Lawrence's family and I really felt welcomed. Another special thing for me was getting to know the other volunteers. They were very important for me to talk about what we had experienced. Thank you for this great opportunity!

The locals from the organization and my host family were very nice. However the conditions at the accommodation were a little bit worse that I imagined. There were many bugs and cockroaches. Most of the day there was no running water so the shower was from a bucket. The host family was very lovely and always warmed it for me but I honestly expected a proper shower. At the organization I was mostly teaching the kids. However I didn't received a plan on what should I teach. So it was up to me what I want to teach. Which I don't think it is a proper solution for the kids in the long term.

I had an amazing experience, everyone was really kind and friendly and the kids were so sweet and fun! The hours are flexible, they leave you time to move around and visit, and the work is pretty open as well, you can personalize the classes and bring your own experience and knowledge to the kids. For accommodations I felt 100% at home and safe, the host family feels like a second family to me, they were extremely helpful and kind and accompanied me everywhere I needed to go. I miss everyone dearly and hope to be able to come back.

Volunteering in Kenya with SYI is one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Not only have I gained so much experience, I've also made tons of new friends and found a new family. People from the organization, my host, other volunteers, and most importantly - the kids in the slum - they're all such wonderful and lovely human beings. I wish I could've stayed longer than just 3 weeks. Thank you very much for everything, the organization ❤️

Melhor experiência internacional que já tive, sem dúvidas. Organização faz um trabalho incrível e de forma muito séria, sempre dando liberdade para os voluntários darem o que tem de melhor a oferecer. O trabalho por lá é feito por gente comprometida e que recebe todo mundo com muito carinho e cuidado. Me senti amparado em todos os momentos e totalmente conectado às pessoas de the organization. Países da África sofrem com má reputação na mídia e na internet, mas estando no Quênia me senti seguro e sempre muito bem tratado por todas as pessoas. Recomendo de olhos fechados a todos.

Ha sido una experiencia muy bonita, a pesar de la cantidad enorme de niños, hay organización y siempre había algo que hacer. Recomiendo vivir día a día en el slum, estuve en casa de Conie, donde fue más personal la experiencia, y se aprende mucho más de la maravillosa cultura keniana. Con Joshua y todo el equipo también genial, hacen una labor increíble. A experience everyone should have. My experience was simply amazing. I have instantly like home away from home. Everyone at la organización has always been kind. friendly and willing to help. I have had a wonderful experience!

Cuando llegué a la organización aún no sabía muy bien que entorno iba a encontrarme; la vida aquí,dentro del slum,es muy diferente a mi día a día en España. Pero he de decir que no me costó mucho adaptarme ,todo el mundo me lo puso muy fácil, además tuve la suerte de coincidir con dos voluntarios españoles. He podido vivir con una familia su día a día,cocinar comida típica y ser una más. Detrás de este gran proyecto hay gente maravillosa y muy unida que velan los unos por los otros para ayudar a la comunidad. Son una gran familia. Creo 100% en la labor que realizan.

Miriam ist eine äußerst engagierte, fleißige, fokussierte, offene und lernbereite Person. Ihre Leistung bei den im Projekt zugewiesenen Aufgaben war herausragend.
Sie ist äußerst zuverlässig und eine gute Teamplayerin, basierend auf meinen Erfahrungen mit ihr empfehle ich sie wärmstens für alle zukünftigen Freiwilligenmöglichkeiten.
