From the moment I arrived I felt at home. The family is incredibly welcoming and generous. You don't come just for a job, you are invited to become a part of the family. Elena especially is so invested, passionate and caring. The kids are full of energy, they can be a handful sometimes but around them there is never a dull moment! Most students are happy to come to the school, they're grateful and a pleasure to teach. You may think you're not doing much, but you are. It's a very gratifying job. I really had a wonderful time. Also, safety in and around Kyiv is barely a concern, so don't hesitate!

I came to Vyshenky during a difficult time for the family but I cant help but feel that every expectation I had was exceeded. There is a great value waiting for you in this experience if you're willing to go for it. You will be welcomed with open arms by (temporary) strangers that want you to be and do well. The lessons are not difficult and the students are well-behaved. Elena was a fantastic host and was always ready to assist me when I needed it. I never felt in danger in Vyshenky village and it is relaxing to explore. Theres a bus route that goes to Kyiv from the village center.

I have nothing but the most lovely things to say about Lena and her family. As soon as I walked in the door, I immediately felt like a part of the family. Everyone is so welcoming and they make it so easy to adjust to a place as unique as Ukraine. The two months I was there were some of the best, most fulfilling of my life. Lena is easy to talk to and will help you with anything you need. And babushka's food is some of the best I've ever had! The children at the the school are also so sweet and easy to teach. Seriously, I cannot recommend this experience enough!

The experience was incredible. Elena and her family truly make you feel at home. They were always kind and caring, from picking us up to helping when I got sick. The rooms were big and comfortable, and the food was always great. The English classes were well organized and not difficult if you speak English. I met amazing students and volunteers from other countries, which made everything even more fun. And if you are doubting about going because of the war, I can say that Ukraine is a very safe country. People are incredibly hospitable and kind. I truly recommend this experience.

I came during the winter of 2025-2026 and while there were some unexpected hiccups, largely I felt it was very safe. there was always plenty of food to eat, safe water to drink. if needed, there was a generator so every problem wasn't that big of a problem. if you enjoy teaching children, its quite easy. if youre not a teacher, youll be surprised how many times you have to repeat things. its very simple and easy work. I would recommend learning some Ukrainian before coming, it's useful when being about town on your own.

Working with the the school was nothing short of spectacular. I only stayed for about 3 weeks, and left wishing I could have stayed longer. Elena is a fantastic host with a lot of heart. Having an opportunity to support the the school, Culture House, and twin boys were all wonderful. There are no shortages of ways to support if you are looking to get involved, but plenty of flexibility if you need a moment to breathe. Can't recommend enough (not to mention 3 VERY delicious meals a day cooked with food grown in their gardens). I will be back soon!

It was a lovely experience spending time with Elena, her family, and the kids I was fortunate enough to meet in Ukraine. Elena is such a kind and considerate teacher, mom, and friend to me. She treated me not as an outsider from the first day I arrived, but like her family. She would check in to see if I was doing okay or if the classes were going as I expected. I didn't hesitate to reach out to her for help anytime given how helpful she was. I highly recommend this the the school to people who want to volunteer as an English instructor and make an impact on the education in Ukraine.

My stay with Olena and her family was wonderful. She went beyond any expectations. Working hours were easy and adaptable to my skill and plans. Food was 10/10 in quality and quantity everyday thanks to Babushka. The location is great, and the family were extremely friendly and open in suggesting places to visit, activities and in helping if any scheduling or travel issues arose. Olena encouraged practicing languages and engagement all the time and her entire family welcoming. Olena could not do more to make the experience more comfortable and worry-free.
