Staying with Karin was definitely an experience. I would like to start with saying Karin is one of the most devoted and hard working women I have met when it comes to her animals and has done so much good, but there is a lot of things that were not expected to start we are told we get a free breakfast every morning which was not delivered aswell as a private room… original we were put in a shared doors and ended up very uncomfortable with a guest staying in there and Karin did kindly move us. If you do choose to go here communicating is key and you need to ask exactly how to do the task..

Las Galeras is a beautiful place, La Hacienda is very near to the beach and the work at the shelter is quit simple.The rescue cats are very lovely and it's touching to see how Karin take care of them. I apologize because i was very rigid about my days off. the shelter site was written one day, and when i arrived, Karin told me that it was two days off, this has given rise to many misunderstandings and inconsistencies between us. We didn't talk that much. It was my first volunteer experience, so i recommand this place for a first volunteering experience.

This volunteering was simply incredible, we enjoyed our experience a lot and miss Karin, the cats and the place so much. Karin is someone truly kind, adorable and careful. The work she asked to do is simple, we had to clean the shelter, change their waters, and pet them. The cats are so cute, we liked to work by their side !! We honestly recommend this volunteering to you because the place and landcape are amazing, locals are so friendly and we enjoyed the culture there. It was a great experience, we hope our future volunteering will be as good as this one ! Thanks for all Karin 😊

Filles, vous étiez incroyables. Deux soleils dans la maison. J'ai adoré vous avoir toutes les deux ici et vous avez pris soin de la Cathouse et des chats de manière si bien. Oui, les chats vous ont aussi manqué, c'était clair. J'ai eu beaucoup de chance de vous avoir toutes les deux ici.
J'espère qu'un jour vous apparaîtrez à la porte.
Mais je suis vraiment désolé... Bobby n'est pas disponible pour l'adoption. Prenez soin de vous et ne changez pas.

Our experience was incredible, it was our first volunteering and we enjoyed a lot ! Karin is a lovely woman, very kind. The hacienda is pleasant, situated 10 minutes walks from the sea. It's 40 minutes walk to go to Las Galeras but when Karin goes, she suggests that we come. The job with cats it's simple, we have to clean the shelter, change their waters, take care and pet them. Thank you so much Karin, we already miss you and the hacienda, we come back to France with beautiful memories.

Thank you Karin for this experience. I would recommend this volunteering mainly to animal lovers. Taking care of the cats was not only about feeding and general cleaning, but also petting some cats and trying to remember the names :). Also the town Las Galeras is a great place to stay with many beautiful beaches around (which you will be able to explore after you finish the work in the morning). Not too touristy but a small town.

Merci Denise pour tout le travail dont tu m’as soulagé. Les chats et moi avons adoré t’avoir près de nous. Tu as fait un excellent travail. Et aussi très important... toujours un visage amical et une bonne humeur. J'ai tellement de chance que les gens viennent, ce qui rend possible que je puisse aider tant de chats.

This was a great experience! Karin was so welcoming and she has the most amazing cats! The work is simple but can be hard work and time consuming especially in the heat and it can be difficult to da good job as the standards are held high. The accommodation was great in a beautiful quiet part of the Dominican Republic with an amazing beach not far from the property.

Daily tasks (about 7 - 10:30): sweeping & mopping the cathouse, cleaning the bowls and emptying & cleaning litter trays. The work isn't difficult but you need to take your time and do it thoroughly. Accommodation: * Basic small 3 bed shared dorm in hostel with fan (can be quite hot) * Interesting visitors: spiders, cockroaches, centipedes *15 min walk to a beautiful beach, 50 min walk to small town/closest shop. I would recommend to anyone who is a thorough cleaner & loves cats but also someone who doesn't mind insects & is happy living a quiet lifestyle away from the town/activity

Charlotte, je suis d'accord sur le dortoir mais combien de fois t'ai-je proposé de passer à une chambre privée... et tu n'as pas voulu, alors ne te plains pas de la chambre car c'était ton choix de rester là😉
Mais maintenant... tu as été l'une des meilleures bénévoles que j'ai jamais eues, ce qui a rendu les choses bien plus faciles pour moi. Maintenant, c'est moi qui transpire, frotte et nettoie les bols (ne parle pas de la collecte des crottes) chaque matin. Merci beaucoup, Charlotte, j'apprécie vraiment tout le travail que tu as accompli pour les chats. Comme ce n'est pas pour moi que je veux que les gens fassent cela, c'est pour aider les chats. Prends soin de toi.

My time at La Hacienda was peaceful and tranquil. While the work is minimal and Karin is a lovely woman, she can be rather particular about how it's done. So just be sure to ask her to explain everything in great detail. the shelter is nearby many local beaches and hiking trails, so if you finish with the cats early you can spend the rest of your day by the beach! Overall a welcome change of pace for which I'm thankful.

La experiencia con Karin ha sido literalmente espectacular! Ella es una persona muy amable y gentil y hace una magnifica labor con los gatitos :-) Su casa es muy acogedora y se encuentra en un lugar muy lindo y relajante. Aconsejamos a todo el mundo de venir a ayudarle, el trabajo es ameno y los gatitos son la cosa más linda del mundo. Karin es muy paciente y siempre nos ha explicado todo con amabilidad y paciencia. Seguramente volveremos a su maravilloso refugio! Gracias por todo Karin, ha sido un enorme placer encontrarte y nos vemos pronto! Valentina y Sonia
