We are a welcoming, honest family running a local business in a beautiful village in the Highlands of Scotland. We are looking for someone to help us with our winter property maintenance, including gardening, painting, and building projects. You will be working closely alongside us during your stay! Here is a little bit about who we are and why we love hosting:
• Katie: I have spent many years working abroad and participating in cultural exchanges—they are truly some of my absolute favourite travel memories. Growing up, my family always hosted traveler's, and my cousins nearby still do full time today! Because of this, there is a fantastic, welcoming local community of travelers here that you can easily connect with. Cultural exchange has always been a part of my life, and I love being able to open our doors to others now.
• Lawrie: I'm civil engineer and have spent my career working on projects across Scotland and New Zealand. I love building work, getting hands-on, and diving headfirst into any new project.
Who We Are Looking For
We are a very kind, honest, and welcoming family. We are looking for volunteers who:
• Have some practical experience with manual labour or handy work.
• Are easy-going, proactive, and genuinely up for anything!
We do 3 days a week 9am-5pm so that volunteers have time off to enjoy and explore the area.
When you do help us it will be with myself and Lawrie, we wantto create a fun environment to be in and share our culture and Highland way of life.
We have a two bedroom flat in the centre of the village which looks out to the sea and harbour. The flat has been completely renovated, so it is lovely and very homely. There is one bedroom available, a shared bathroom (with bath and shower), open kitchen living area and entrance space. This accommodation plus daily food is included for 24 hours of help per week. The building is located on the shorefront of Ullapool and the bedrooms look out to the sea so have fantastic views.
