U inn Berlin Hostel
In passato siamo stati un ostello e persone di tutte le età e di tutte le origini convivono ora con noi in modo permanente. Con i nostri 30 posti letto siamo situati in una delle zone più in voga di Berlino, e si possono trovare bar, caffè e club, nonché centri yoga, cibo salutare e tutti i tipi di ristoranti proprio dietro l'angolo. Alcune delle persone che vivono qui hanno bisogno di aiuto e il tuo compito principale è garantire sicurezza, tranquillità e pulizia nella casa durante i tuoi turni.
Naturalmente trattiamo tutte le persone della casa con rispetto. Il nostro staff è molto amichevole, ma ovviamente anche il lavoro deve essere svolto. Non tolleriamo chi vuole ottenere trattamenti extra o speciali rispetto agli altri. Siamo tutti nella stessa casa e, affinché tutto funzioni, ognuno deve fare la propria parte.

My volunteering experience was very positive. The tasks were easy and simple to carry out, which made the daily routine smooth and well organized. The shifts were also very flexible, since volunteers could swap schedules with each other as long as Dona or Dani were informed, this gave us a lot of freedom and made teamwork easier. I really enjoyed this experience, both because of the welcoming way the work was managed and the opportunity to learn and contribute in such a pleasant environment. It was definitely an enriching experience that I will carry with me.

Disappointing experience. The project presents itself as social, but feels impersonal. Volunteers are treated like cleaning staff, working over 50h/week with no real space for dialogue, yet we are also the ones living with the residents, supporting them emotionally, resolving tensions, and navigating delicate interpersonal dynamics. There's a lack of communication and presence from the host. What gave true meaning to my stay were the connections with residents and the hired team members at the reception. This place has potential but it needs to value people over profit to truly make an impact.

The hosts are kind and flexible, and the atmosphere with guests is also friendly. While there may be issues that need resolving, they are usually straightforward. While the hours are long, the tasks are simple and easy. For me, it was a good experience.

Vorrei dire, durante le tue lunghe ore, che hai menzionato, puoi dormire. ;-) Quindi non sono davvero così lunghe, crediamo... ma amiamo il tuo modo con le persone, le tue abilità di tuttofare e ti consigliamo al 100% :-) Grazie, Pablo!

The managers and everyone were super nice, and it was pretty flexible that if I needed a day off it could be arranged. The hostel is in a great area and it was a good opportunity to improve my German. The work isn't that difficult and the accommodation was also ok. However, the hours are a lot more than they say, for example, a weekend usually includes at least a 24 hour shift. You aren't necessarily working the whole time but you aren't able to leave during your shift.

Cara Kaya! Ci è piaciuto averti come volontaria!! Grazie per il tuo impegno e la tua gentile personalità :-) Per chiarire: il turno del fine settimana va dalle 15:00 alle 08:00. In realtà non devi lavorare durante quelle ore, puoi anche dormire e restare nella tua stanza. Quindi fondamentalmente devi solo essere lì in caso di emergenza... Crediamo che ci siano posizioni di volontariato molto più difficili là fuori ;-)

The experience had its challenges. On the positive side, the location is good and it was the only available volunteer position in Berlin at the time. Communication was unclear from the start, leading to misunderstandings. A clearer explanation of tasks and more support during unforeseen situations would have helped. Security is limited, as access is granted via a shared code. They decided to end the arrangement after I missed some shifts due to illness, without prior communication to seek solutions.
