Volunteers contributes €40 per day to cover food (authentic 3 meals per day), visa support document, pre-departure information pack, accommodation, utilities included, airport pickup, administrative support, in-country & program orientation, 24/7 in-country supervision & support from staff during your stay in the program, sim card, t-shirt, maintenance, donation to project, certificate & reference letter upon request.

This is an ideal program for students studying nursing and aspiring to seek international clinical exposure in healthcare.
SMWEF Ghana helps you gain hands-on nursing and midwifery experience in hospitals, clinics, and community health centres of Ghana. Our internship programs are well structured and designed for international students and aspiring nurses seeking hands-on practical exposure in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Ghana’s healthcare system faces several challenges, including tuberculosis, maternal and child health issues, HIV/AIDS, chronic diseases, trauma rates and high injury making nursing internship rewarding and meaningful.
Interns work under the guidance of healthcare professionals in public and private hospitals, and community clinics contribute to clinical support, patient care, and health promotion.
Role and Responsibilities of Nursing Interns
• Observing experienced local doctors and nurses and perform routine tasks in various departments at the hospital or clinic settings
• You’ll have the opportunity to learn about various tropical conditions and treatments.
• You’ll take part in school and community outreach to do wound dressing, give talk on basic important health education such as tooth brushing, adolescent Reproductive Health education, etc.
• Assisting with counseling etc.
• Opportunity to observe and work in various departments alongside experienced doctors and nurses etc.
Attività e turni
Nursing interns in Ghana usually work structured morning shifts typically 5-6 hours per day from Monday through Friday. Hospitals are busiest in the morning, making this the best time to see a high volume of cases. Interns participating in this program will engage in a very impactful and meaningful work experience focused on nursing in a hospital or clinic setting.
Interns begin the day with a wonderful sense of purpose arriving at the hospital or clinic facility, getting ready to contribute to the essential services provided by the facility.
You will immerse yourself within the facilities activities working alongside qualified and experienced doctors and nurses committed to addressing nursing and midwifery issues. Each intern role is important whether you are directly involved in assisting in nursing sessions, patients support, contributing to awareness, each step is important towards improving healthier.
Shifts & Schedule
Interns participate approximately 5-6 hours per day, 5 days per week depending on the workload available at the hospital or clinic. This volunteer schedule is flexible and may change depending on the activities by the hospital and the community needs such as weather conditions, outreach programs etc.
Weekends are free to explore whether participating in community health outreach programs, or engaging in preventive health education while immersing yourself in local communities and their culture. You can also choose to explore the tour attraction sites in Ghana such as a visit to the Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Kakum National Park, Canopy walkway, Museums, Art Centre, Markola Market, and Independence Square in Accra etc.
Regole
• Participants applying for this program must have medical backgrounds or professionals in this field or alternatively student currently studying nursing or aspiring to seek international clinical exposure in healthcare.
• Participants encouraged to be flexible, patient, open-minded, respect, abide by the rules of the placement activity, and willing to learn the culture of Ghana.
• Volunteers should communicate openly and respectfully with volunteer coordinators, supervisors etc. regarding any challenges, schedule changes, or concerns.
• Any donations or support materials should be coordinated through the organization
• Safety instructions provided by the host organization should always be followed during activities and travel.
