I was a bit sceptic about volunteering for the hostel because of the previous reviews, so I decided to first visit the hostel as a tourist, so I could decide there if I feel the place or not. Actually I immediately fell in love with the place and the people. The hostel is beautiful, the employees became my friends, I improved my Spanish a lot and I even learned some Mayan. The new management always thought along with me and put me in a position within the organization where I felt most comfortable and they always kept their agreements. Big thanks to my Greengo family for this amazing experience!

My experience had a bit of everything, I can't say it was bad but it wasn't entirely good either. From entering I did not feel the good vibes, there is a tense atmosphere more when the owner is in the place, I also felt that there is racism if you are Guatemalan, if you are a foreigner you surely will not feel it. the hostel was good for me since I was able to fully practice my English, I connected with many people, especially the locals, the food is very tasty, you won't need anything. It was not the place for me, a month was more than enough, but I met very beautiful and noble people.

Ciao Maria. Grazie per la tua recensione. Vorrei dire che abbiamo fatto tutto il possibile per soddisfare le tue aspettative. Per darti i turni e i giorni liberi che volevi e avevi bisogno. E per farti sentire come a casa. Quindi mi piacerebbe sapere cos'altro avremmo potuto fare. Inoltre tutto il nostro personale è guatemalteco, quindi possiamo rassicurarti che non c'è razzismo verso nessuno. Ci piace includere tutti e far sentire tutti i benvenuti. I do not recommend this experience because the host did not keep to the agreement on the meals offered, so I felt my health was compromised and I even lost 2kg in one week! When I informed them that I would leave early, the hosts wanted to charge me for all the food and that was not agreed. I also suggest that you do not collect documentation from any foreigners because I had to call the police to get my documents back and it was a very embarrassing situation. It was not a good experience."

The hostel is a beautiful place, but really far away from everything. If you decide to come here be aware is not much to do around. Travelers only stay max 2 nights so is not the best place to meet people from other places, but I was able to know the locals and learn a little bit of the culture. The employees work under a lot of pressure and stress, sometimes is not a really positive place to work. The food is amazing! I have my 3 meals everyday. They should have rooms for volunteers. The power is from 6:30 am to 12 pm and from 4pm to 12am, wifi sucks, only works sometime which is terrible

I worked at the hostel for nearly 6 weeks as the entertainment coordinator / bar staff , although there were some rearranges to staff while I was there, I found the owners to be fair and appreciative of hard work. I was able to gain experience in the bar which I had not previously had as well as practice Spanish via the spanish speaking staff. I found my hours to fair and flexible, basically my manager would ask me what my plan was for the day, I would analyze the amount of guests and what they wanted to do in regards to possible activities.

Great way to see the beautiful Semuc Champey for a good amount of time while saving some money and getting to know the people/area. A month flew by! I'll be back 🙂

I stayed at the hostel for 6 weeks. In the beginner we received our meals at appropriate times, The owner changed everything after 1 week to beans rice and bread for the meals and eating times, breakfast 10am, lunch 3pm and dinner 12am. I got to spend time with the loverly Che chi people at Green-gos. The Workers or 24 we are told to call them, are modern day slaves, you ring a bell and the workers run to your service 24 hours for less then 50Q a day while being treated poorly. I would never support a organization like the hostel, they only take and never give back to the community.
