Dettagli del programma

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at LHA. Your time, energy, and skills directly support our charitable mission and make a real difference in the lives of the young people who stay with us. Our incredible teams of volunteers from around the world contribute over 150,000 hours of their time each year, bringing valuable skills and energy.

Sandeman-Allen House is one of our 14 LHA hostels across London (5 catered and 9 self-catered). As a catered hostel, volunteers play an important role in supporting both the housekeeping and kitchen teams to ensure residents enjoy a comfortable and welcoming stay. In return for your time and support, you’ll receive the same flexible living benefits as our residents, including free shared accommodation with fellow volunteers and partial meals provided.

A bit about our roles:

1. Housekeeping Support Volunteer
You will support the housekeeping team in creating a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents.

Typical tasks may include:

Helping with general cleaning in bedrooms, bathrooms, dining areas, and shared spaces

Supporting with light portering tasks and keeping communal areas tidy

Assisting with occasional deeper cleaning tasks such as ovens, carpets, walls, vents, and windows

Helping with changing bed linen and preparing laundry for collection

2. Catering Support Volunteer
You will support the kitchen team to help create a positive dining experience for residents.

Typical tasks may include:

Assisting with meal service

Pot washing and maintaining a clean kitchen environment

Preparing the dining area before residents arrive

Clearing and tidying the dining area after meals

Occasionally supporting with basic food preparation and helping maintain common hostel areas

Attività e turni

A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required.

Once you are offered a role, the exact days and times for your volunteering patterns will be confirmed. In general, volunteers support the team during morning, late afternoon, or evening duty blocks.

Depending on how your hours are scheduled, you will typically have 1–2 days off dutyeach week.

Regole

Volunteers stay in our shared single-sex dormitories with other volunteers. Depending on room availability, you may share with 2–4 other volunteers.

The minimum stay is 30 days.

If you are visiting the UK as a tourist, please note that UK immigration rules only allow visitors to volunteer for up to 30 days during their stay. If you have already volunteered in the UK for 30 days during your current visit, we will unfortunately not be able to accept your application.

To ensure we comply with visa guidance and avoid repeated short-term volunteering on visitor status, LHA requires a 6-month gap between volunteering periods. Applications that do not meet this requirement may be declined.
