Our local community center is a lively and professional place, where more than 10 local staff members work every day, including doctors, laboratory assistants, accountants, and project coordinators.
It truly feels like a home, where staff, volunteers and local families interact every day.
Beyond the community center, we operate four pharmacies in nearby towns, giving volunteers the chance to see the real impact of our work in different local communities.
As a volunteer at Corazón de los Niños, you will play an important role in supporting families and children in their daily life, while experiencing Guatemalan culture firsthand.
Volunteers are expected to have at least intermediate Spanish, as most clients and staff communicate in Spanish.
If you are a beginner, we can help you find a Spanish teacher before your arrival to feel more prepared.
Volunteers stay in a private room with a bathroom and hot shower, right inside the community center, so you are always close to the heart of the project. The kitchen is shared with staff during the day, but evenings and weekends are reserved just for volunteers, giving you your own space to cook and relax.
There is also a drinking water purifier available, so you’ll always have access to safe, filtered water.

Attività e turni
As a volunteer, you may:
· Assist in English classes at local schools, helping children learn and practice language skills
· Support community activities and workshops, contributing to families’ daily life and wellbeing
· Help manage social media or communications to promote the organization’s projects
· Organize and manage the storage of medicines at our community center and pharmacies
· Help sort, store, and distribute donations from our warehouse, including food, clothing, and educational supplies
· Bring your own ideas to develop new initiatives with meaningful and lasting impact!
The community center is generally open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Specific schedules and shifts will be discussed with each volunteer based on the activities they choose and the needs of the project.
Regole
Volunteers are expected to follow these rules to ensure safety, respect, and a positive experience for everyone:
· Do not bring uninvited guests onto the property.
· Do not bring or consume alcohol or drugs on the property.
· Keep shared spaces, including the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms, clean and tidy.
· Report any incidents or issues to the staff immediately.
· Be respectful and humble towards our clients and staff.
· Do not share any personal confidential details about the people we support.
Our community center entrance is located just beyond our on-site pharmacy, so we follow the pharmacy’s opening hours: 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day.
Volunteers must plan their arrivals and departures according to these hours.
If you plan to be away from the property for the entire day, please inform us in advance.
No previous experience is required. We welcome both experienced and first-time volunteers, and you will receive guidance and support so you can help in the area that fits you best.
For the safety of the children and everyone in the community, we ask all volunteers to provide a police clearance certificate.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.
