The Experience

We are a "glamping" campground 10 miles North of Hilo, Hawaii (on the Big Island) near the tiny farming town of Honomu and the legendary Akaka Falls on the beautiful Hamakua Coast. We live off-grid which mean we get most of our power from solar panels so we are providing an eco-friendly place to say. We need help with tasks such as laundry, housekeeping and light maintenance.

Overall great experience. Happy that this was my first Worldpackers experience. Both the owner, Matt, and the property manager, Clarke, were helpful and welcoming. The work was manageable and could be done in a timely manner especially when everyone helped everyone so we could get out and explore. While you don't need a rental car it is nice to have while there. The bus isn't always reliable and having car made it easy to experience the most possible while there. There is also stuff that you can walk to if you don't want to rent a car.

Volunteering in the lodge guest house was so much fun. I explored so much of the island and made friends with everyone there. The hours were straightforward and the jobs were easy. We had so much time to see the island. Clarke and Matt where really nice and welcoming

This was my first WP experience, and it was truly amazing. The work could be done before noon on almost all days, leaving us the remaining day to explore the island. I made some really good friends and made memories that I will cherish forever. Everyone is super welcoming and supportive. A car is needed if you want to explore, buses are not super reliable. They have 4 adorable cats! If you have any questions, feel free to message me on ig: @korevisha

This guesthouse became a little home and I can't be more grateful for my time here. The work is really good and can be done on time for volunteers to venture the island. The beautiful island life, sunsets/sunrises, cats, and nights lit up by stars are magical. Everyone I met was really fun to hang around, and the managers are probably the best managers I could have asked for. For those looking to really explore the island, learn, meet people, and make memories, taking the chance to apply here will be worthwhile! Now I have more in my life to miss and look forward to. :) Mahalo! 🌺

I can't recommend this experience enough. Managing the Guesthouse was truly the best experience of my life thus far. The house/property is so beautiful and as soon as I arrived I felt welcomed and at home. Initially there is a lot of information to take in for the work, but I never felt overwhelmed. If at any point I had any questions/concerns, Mat was always there to help me out. He is one of the most knowledgable people I've ever met and I knew I could always count on him. The work/atmosphere at the house taught me so many skills and lessons that I will keep with me forever.
