Ohh, the hostel! Home far from home, definitely. The manager Gabs and the head cleaner Dale made everything feel soft and smooth since my very first day. The hostel has a family vibe that's unbeatable, hard to find somewhere else. I spent 5 months in HSH and the closeness were always there, doesn't matter what group of volunteers we had. If you like events and talking to guests, perfect vibe If you don't like, perfect vibe too. Events shifts are optional. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'll miss the jokes, board games and love we all shared in HSH. best place ever!

Everyone who works there is wonderful and responsible, the working hours are great and very well organized, and the hostel's vibe and location are amazing. This was my first time working in a hostel with such a large team of volunteers, and I was genuinely impressed by how well everything was organized. The structure was clear, the tasks were thoughtfully planned, and everything ran smoothly even with so many people involved. What made this experience truly special was the people. I met so many inspiring and unforgettable individuals here — the kind of encounters that stay with you long after you leave. The staff were incredibly kind, supportive and easy to work with, which made the whole environment feel welcoming from the very beginning.

I came for one month and stayed for another, which says everything about how special this place became to me. It felt like a home away from home, warm, welcoming, and full of kind people! I've stayed in other hostels, but never experienced something this genuine. So many special moments, shared dinners, game nights, volleyball in the park, and all the little memories in between. The friendships I made meant so much to me. The working hours are very fair, and the tasks are easygoing. I never felt overwhelmed. Leaving with a heart full of gratitude! It might sound a bit cliché to say a hostel can feel like home, but HSH truly made me feel that way from day one. The staff is incredible, and the way volunteers are chosen creates a diverse and open-minded environment in terms of culture and age, which really enriches the experience. Tasks are simple, schedules are flexible, and there's plenty of time to enjoy a city as beautiful as Edinburgh. I'm leaving with amazing friendships and unforgettable memories. Special thanks to Gabriela for always being supportive while keeping everything running smoothly. HSH has a special place in my heart!

Is probably the best place to volunteer in UK, Gabriela as a Manager is really good and flexible, she will make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable. The team was incredible, even though we were 30 volunteers I was able to get to know everyone and now that I'm not there I miss everybody! I can't say anything wrong about this place.

When I myself was looking into volunteering at the hostel i read the reviews and thought they were too good to be true. But I truly do not have one single negative thing to say about HSH. It instantly felt like home, even if I was only there one month. The beautiful suroundings that the city provides go without saying, but the hostel itself radiates such warmth and community that you could stay for three months and not leave the building at all of you wanted to. It truly is a magical place and I will miss it dearly. Thank you to everybody who makes the place so special

I had a really fun two months at the hostel. I met so many kind and loving people, including all of the staff who really felt like part of family! The hostel is in a nice spot right in the old town and near the Cowgate with lots of bars and clubs. The network of sister hostels both within Edinburgh and across Scotland makes traveling on days off and meeting more travelers really easy too. 5 stars; highly recommend!!

It was an incredible experience! The hostel has great facilities, and they only require 14 hours per week. The schedule is very flexible, which gives you plenty of free time to enjoy and explore the city Gabs is very attentive and kind person who always did everything to make me feel comfortable throughout my stay. There were around 25 volunteers, which made it great for socialising, making friends, playing games, and exploring Edinburgh together I would definitely recommend it to any traveller it was an amazing experience and I hope to come back one day Thank you for everything, Gabs :)

This place makes you feel part of a family as soon as you step into the building. Amazing volunteers, unmatched vibes and the best activities to make unforgettable memories. The spaces in the hostel are cozy and great to meet new people and chill in the lounge. The location is super convenient, right in the heart of Edinburgh
