Castello di Ristonchi

Do you want to experience living in a castle in the Tuscan hillside and being a part of a multicultural community, then this is the place that you need to be!

Every year we welcome people from all over the world to come and help out at the castle. During the months from April to October we are hosting events and weddings, where people from all over the world gather to celebrate in our beautiful castle.
In the fall months we are super busy harvesting all of our olives and making olive oil!
We have many different tasks that need to be done, almost all year around!

Our focus is to live a simpler life in a community setting surrounded by nature. To get away from the stress and the consumerism and get back to the earth and the love. To build, to learn and to create. We try to be as self-sustainable and waste-free as possible! We welcome any help and tips from you.

We need some volunteers at a time so there is plenty of opportunities to make friends. We also have different tasks and we hope that you don't mind doing and learning a little bit of everything. We are a 20-30 minute walk from the nearest bus and shop. If you do not have a car we can pick you up at the nearest bus stop.

Beautiful remote area, connected with a lot of other volunteers and experienced Italy in a different way.

There's a reason so many volunteers return to the castle. Being on a mountain in Tuscany with gorgeous sunsets and gorgeous people warms any travellers heart. During my stay, I harvested olives, gardened, and cleaned bars/kitchens. The work isn't very hard, and you are never pushed to do something you struggled with. Just don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.
Living quarters wise, there isn't much to it, and you are missing a few simple creature comforts, but if you can get over that, you're golden.
Would love to return one day ❤️

I arrived during the off season so no events with more relaxed work
Our group of 11 volunteers were amazing and friendly, We shared story's, Learnt new languages, ate probably the best food I have had in a while and Explored the wonderful scenery. It was an amazing experience and was sad to leave after 2 weeks
I highly recommend it and hope to return.

But...
Communication was extremely poor with 0 organisation
The rules did not have much logic or reason
Controdictions were regular
Owners were very disconnected from the volunteers
Your experience can vary with who you get as volunteers.

I was 10 days and I loved it. Staff is great and also meeting other travelers from different countries. I liked my activity assigned (taking olives from trees with machine, you not doing alone, is easy). Food lunch was also incredible, is made by a volunteer or staff but always is good. Sunsets are great, stars at night if no clouds, can use bicycles, go running, and is a classic Italian restaurant like 45min walking.

Bathroom could be better but is ok! Love the castle 🏰!

Totally recommend.
