Chestnut Brae Farm

Chestnut Brae Farm is the most beautiful farm in the south west. It comprises 70 acres with 20 acres of sweet chestnuts and daffodils. The farm is in Carlotta just 10 minutes drive south of Nannup and 55 minutes inland from Margaret River. The region is a beautiful food and wine production area and Nannup is the centre of the south west, so it is a perfect spot to explore the entire south west region. We have sheep, goats, alpaca, chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, and pigs.

The farm is run by Linda and John Stanley and we love to have volunteers from around the world stay with us and share their stories of their home town. As our own family have all grown up and left home, we treat volunteers as though they are part of our family. We have a special room for volunteers and volunteers have their own bathroom and toilet. Volunteers eat meals with us and if you would like to share in the cooking sometimes we are happy with that. We do reccomend that volunteers get a Telstra simcard before travelling to regional areas as telephone reception can be otherwise limited. Frequently Asked Questions can be found here:

I absolutely loved my time at Chestnut Brae!! It was such a unique experience to be able to unplug from the city and stay on the most beautiful farm. Linda and John are both such welcoming and kind people. I had such a blast enjoying the farm and learned so much from both of them about sustaining this lifestyle. Cheers to an unforgettable experience:)

John and Linda are stargazing hosts! I've learnt a lot about sustainability and I felt welcomed in their house together with other backpackers. The tasks went from chestnuts picking and peeling to feeding the farm animals and weeding the gardens but also helping in cleaning the farm stay. I loved the fact that the jobs were versatile and the constant contact with the nature. I highly recommend this experience to live something unique and local. I wish the best to this two fantastic hosts and hope to see them again one day :)

John & Linda are both lovely people and were very welcoming to myself, Luke & Ben. Working on the farm has been rewarding and I have found it interesting. I have learnt a lot about the many uses the chestnuts have! I enjoyed the variety of tasks that you can do across the day.

This was my first time volunteering with Worldpackers and I loved my time at the farm. I learned so much in just a month not just about chestnuts but also alot about sustanability. John and Linda are very kind, good listeners and invite you with open arms at the farm. Most of the work is outside. I was there during peak season so there was alot of chestnut picking but I also got to peel, grade, feed the animals and make some of the products that Linda and John sells etc. I am very thankful that I got to volunteer at Chestnut Brae. Thank you!

Chestnut Brae is an absolutely wonderful place to stay! John and Linda are polite, generous and entertaining hosts. The work is outdoorsy and physical mostly (particularly during season) but on rainy days there are always indoor jobs, like peeling/grading chestnuts and cleaning. You will find a home away from home with full access to the kitchen, and lovely (sometimes chestnutty) home cooked meals every evening. The accomodation is basic but comfortable, and on your days off you can go into town/s to explore :) I can’t thank you guys enough for the fulfilling month I spent with you!
