Gharmikhola Agro Farm

We stay near Pokhara City, one of the most popular city of Nepal. We own a farm where we provide a room for volunteers. It is in a quiet place and natural surrounded with beautiful hills. We have a cow, goats, chickens, vegetables and crops at our farm.

I live on my farm with my wife and two children. We are welcoming volunteers to assist. My children go to school, the boy is at grade one and the girl at grade seven. My daughter can assist with Nepali language.

The overall experience this week was okay. The farm is quite small, the work done was educational and not tiring. In my opinion, the place where I slept was not suitable for hosting two volunteers because it was too small. The welcome wasn't the best, I was asked to eat on the floor while Tanka and his wife ate in the armchair. Furthermore, the house rules were not clearly defined, and this led to a rather heated discussion with tanka. So I was forced to leave the farm two days before the scheduled departure.

This was difficult for me as a solo female. The area is beautiful, and the work was pretty light. My biggest issue was with the treatment of their dog, which lives in a crate outside unless he’s on 2 short walks a day given by me. He is not leash trained and doesn’t have a harness, and escaped 4 times in the week I was there. I had to chase/catch him ALONE each time while he scratched/tried to bite me, not wanting to go back to the crate. The other issue was just that it is a very patriarchal house hold and I felt uncomfortable with the expressed opposition of women’s rights in Nepal.

Tanka had an amazing home with an amazing family, truly I had an exceptional experience and stay, getting to now the farm, locals, and nature. A nice quiet place on the country side to relax and work hard.
Thank you for hosting Tanka.

I spent a wonderful 10 days on the farm! Tanka and his family are so welcoming and i had the most amazing time. There is so many different things you can do on the farm my favourite things to do were feed the goats and work in the rice fields. Also there is a stream you can go into to cool off when it’s hot which is so nice. It’s a lovely environment all the locals are super friendly. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is wanting to experience true nepali culture and eat good nepali food and of course to stay with the family!

I spent an unforgettable 8 days at the farm. I only wish i could have extended my time for longer. Tanka and his family welcomed me with open arms and really look after the volunteers. The work is light and fun with a lot of time to relax in nature, socialise with other volunteers and explore the local area. This was a very special experience for me and I have found my happy place in Nepal. I would recommend this experience to anybody wanting to connect with nature and experience life on a small family run farm! Thank you for everything, see you soon :)
