Global Village
We are a small independently run hostel in Belfast. Currently rated number 1 in Northern Ireland on the hostel world.
We like to have people work with us who are friendly and outgoing, who are here to get something from this experience, socialize with the guests and staff, create a buzz and be a contributing character and presence to the hostel.
In exchange for free accommodation in our 6-bed mixed staff dorm, you will be required to work up to 3 hours a day either cleaning the hostel and making beds in the morning or 6-hour reception duties during the day plus 1-night shift per week which is from 8 pm to 8 am.
After your night shift you get the next day and one extra day off! We are a super friendly and chilled-out hostel with artwork on nearly every wall which guests who are artists have done while they have stayed with us.
We see it as more of a homely feel hostel as the volunteers stay on site and they treat it as if it were their home. We do ask for a minimum stay of 1 month so you can learn the ropes and get familiar with the hostel and get to have a real feel for the city.
Hi! My name is Nerea. I'm from Barcelona, Spain. I came to Global Village as a volunteer back in 2019 for a month and loved it so much that I stayed until July 2020. This year I became the manager.
When I started I found the place to be really fun and relaxed and everyone was very welcoming. The owner, Mark, is a really friendly, young Irish guy who has traveled the world and has designed the hostel to what travelers expect from a hostel. He also has a cool little Boston terrier dog named Buju that never leaves his side!
He's pretty cool! Over the past 2 years, I have been in and out of the hostel traveling and working, and no matter how long I leave I have always been welcomed back by Mark. I'm always happy to meet people around the world.
If you choose to stay and volunteer with us you will have full unlimited access to all the facilities here at GV including Netflix, Xbox, 4 guitars and 2 amps, a keyboard, and cajones! Free unlimited internet and apple macs, free pool table and Foosball table, free kitchen facilities (2 ovens and stoves, 2 sinks, microwave, pots, and pans and cutlery) free pasta, spices, rice, bread, jam, cereal, milk, and free laundry facilities!
We only have 48 beds so it is considered a small hostel but we are very concentrated on the guest/volunteer interaction. This results in a much better experience for both guests and volunteers. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we look forward to hearing from you and possibly meeting you!
Cheers,
Nerea
